Technical Account Manager
(Sweeteners – Bakery and Confection Ingredients)
Home based with travel from any city in the US
Our client is a global start up in the sweetener, bakery/confectionery ingredients segment. Based on growth, they are seeking to hire a Technical Account Manager to take charge of lead generation, new account development, and opportunity management. In this role, you will be responsible for identifying and pursuing new business opportunities, managing client projects, and ensuring timely follow-ups to convert opportunities into successful accounts. Coverage will include both the US and Canadian markets.
Responsibilities
Responsible for driving sweetener sales at small, medium, and large food manufacturers in the assigned sales territory.
Understand volume and revenue objectives for assigned territory and customers.
Develop long-term relationships with key decision makers, across key functions, within the target accounts.
Successfully prospect, qualify, grow, and maintain new accounts and relationships at those accounts.
Create action-based customer plans to develop business relationships and results within area of responsibility.
Develop a thoughtful understanding of customer potential through analysis of brand strategies, positioning, strengths and weaknesses, and competition data.
Establish and maintains strong relationships with colleagues.
Remain current with industry trends.
Qualifies new inbound leads.
Process samples and complete other administrative tasks as required.
Assist with the management of and attend targeted regional and national trade shows and co-ordinates lead follow-up.
Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
Strong written and oral communication skills
Proven selling, territory growth and relationship-building skills
Self-directed with a strong work ethic
Proficient Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Product and applications knowledge, particularly in sugar reduction
Strategic and critical thinking skills
Team leadership skills, including ability to convince others to enthusiastically support new initiatives
Ability to think laterally across a broad range of functions and segments
Ability to work with and co-ordinate activities with other business units and functions within the organization and across the world
Agile and open to change
Travel:
30-50 %
Possible international travel
Requirements
Must Bachelors’ degree , ideally in Food Science or technical field
Must have 3+ years of progressive experience in selling value-add ingredients (specifically sweeteners) to small-large food companies or 5+ years in an applications/development position with customer interaction and project management
Must have some experience working in confectionery and/or bakery categories a plus
High level of proficiency with sales planning, both short-term and strategic planning
Understanding of the ingredients industry, including consumer, industry trends, and food processing
Knowledge of customer strategies, commercial needs, product launch processes, and competitor activity
