About the role
The Technical Accounting Manager is responsible for evaluating and documenting technical accounting analyses, maintaining accounting policies and narrative, and performing certain monthly close activities. In this position, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise and guidance on complex accounting issues in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This includes the accounting, reconciliation, and reporting of business combinations and stock compensation. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of accounting standards, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

In this position, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise and guidance on complex accounting issues in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This includes the accounting, reconciliation, and reporting of business combinations and stock compensation. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of accounting standards, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
This role reports to the Director, Financial Reporting, and is a hybrid role with a flexible work arrangement out of our Vienna, VA or Raleigh, NC offices.
You Will
- Research and document technical accounting issues and provide memos on those subjects as needed, including debt, derivatives, equity, and stock compensation.
- Follow emerging accounting issues and proactively analyze their impact on the Company’s results and financial position and lead the implementation of new accounting standards.
- Provide technical support to the general ledger team regarding complex accounting matters, including but not limited to leases, inventory, and revenue/accounts receivable.
- Review acquisition agreements and prepare purchase accounting workpapers; support third party valuations as needed (ASC 805, 409A, 718, 350).
- Oversee the accounting for complex and technical items. This includes preparing equity and stock compensation workpapers; reviewing debt and derivative journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations; reviewing the statement of cash flows.
- Close responsibilities include (but are not limited to) journal entries, account analysis, and ad hoc analysis for acquisitions and equity.
- Review the financial statements and footnote tables.
- Plans and implements the annual 401K audit.
- Maintain and document accounting policies and procedures.
- Work with the general ledger team to develop internal controls.
- Identify opportunities for improving internal control processes, make recommendations to accounting leadership, and maintain high-quality internal controls.
About You
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or related field; Master’s degree preferred or the equivalent combination of education, experience and skills.
- 5+ years related experience in accounting
- CPA, required
- Public accounting or public company experience, required
- Public accounting experience required.
- Preference for experience with public companies, IPO, and/or PE-backed companies.
- Preference for experience with business combinations, leases, and implementation of new accounting standards.
