Technical Architect Specialist - Edge Networking
Summary:
This position is with the Edge Networking team within the Bureau of Infrastructure under the Pennsylvania Office of Administration (OA). The primary responsibility of the Technical Architect Specialist is to provide comprehensive network support for edge networks within various Commonwealth of Pennsylvania agencies.
Position Requirements:
The successful candidate will provide technical expertise in planning, designing, maintaining, and integrating local and wide area network infrastructure, contributing to the edge networking architecture across the Enterprise. We seek a highly skilled and proactive individual with experience in large environments and strong communication skills.
Preferred Certifications:
Deployment and Change Management:
Assist with widespread incidents impacting customers and other networking teams, providing prompt resolution.
Technology Evaluation:
Participate in the evaluation of new technologies, recommending solutions as part of hardware refresh cycles.
Documentation and Standards:
Ensure all networks meet or exceed security requirements as outlined by OA.
Support:
Provide remote support for IT staff, agency operations, and business partners, addressing network-related issues and facilitating deployments.
Technical Proficiency:
Maintain knowledge of routing protocols, network monitoring tools, and automation processes.

1. Obtain and maintain CJIS clearances.
2. Operate telephones, PCs, servers, network components, and motor vehicles.
3. Lift equipment up to 40 pounds.
4. Deliver excellent customer service.
5. Stay current on network-related trends and technologies.
Experience Requirements:
Network Switching: 4-5 years (required)
Network Routing: 3-4 years (required)
CCNA: 2-3 years (desired)
CCNP: 1-3 years (beneficial)
SD-WAN: 2 years (beneficial)

Preferred Certifications:
- CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate)
- CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) or higher
- *Candidates with extensive hands-on experience will be considered in lieu of certifications.*
- Network Infrastructure Management: Install, configure, maintain, and manage network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, Silver Peak SD-WAN edge appliances, wireless infrastructure, cellular-based appliances, and all associated hardware and software.
- Utilize industry-standard tools to monitor, test, verify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex network issues. Collaborate with users, service providers, business partners, and other teams to achieve resolution.
- Assist the Edge Networking team with LAN/WAN network architecture planning, including network bandwidth analysis and capacity planning.
- Develop detailed specifications and schematic engineering drawings for network enhancements and modifications.
Deployment and Change Management:
- Support planned deployments and upgrades, managing change control within the edge networking team.
- Document and manage edge networking tickets and incidents using ServiceNow, ensuring adherence to established processes.
Assist with widespread incidents impacting customers and other networking teams, providing prompt resolution.
Technology Evaluation:
Participate in the evaluation of new technologies, recommending solutions as part of hardware refresh cycles.
Documentation and Standards:
- Develop and maintain documentation for network components, including setup, installation, and deployment.
- Create and update Visio diagrams for edge networks, particularly for specialized field networks.
Ensure all networks meet or exceed security requirements as outlined by OA.
Support:
Provide remote support for IT staff, agency operations, and business partners, addressing network-related issues and facilitating deployments.
Technical Proficiency:
Maintain knowledge of routing protocols, network monitoring tools, and automation processes.
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work from a step ladder as necessary.
- This position offers part-time telework flexibility, with occasional travel for meetings, conferences, and training sessions.
- Candidates must reside within the greater Harrisburg, Pennsylvania area to qualify for this position.
- The role is based on a hybrid model, combining telework with office-based work at an approved Commonwealth-owned facility.
- The Technical Architect Specialist will manage time efficiently, coordinating with other edge networking teams as needed. Performance is evaluated based on network uptime, functionality, and customer satisfaction.
