What You Will Do
This position will be filled at the Technical Program Manager 2 level.
The Detonation Science and Technology Group (Q-6) serves the Laboratory and the Nation providing the knowledge base and component design responsibilities for the Nuclear Weapons Program and other critical national security areas. The Group's capabilities include design engineering for nuclear weapon detonators and detonator cable assemblies, design, fabrication, qualification, and installation of test fire control systems, pulse power engineering, advanced detonator design and testing, and applied problem solving. Additional capabilities include expertise in the detonation science and physics of detonator energetic materials, and engineering responsibility for the cradle to grave care of the detonators and detonator cable assemblies used by Los Alamos National Laboratory. Q-6 is also responsible for engineering, fabricating, or acquiring precision high explosives detonators for a diverse R&D customer base to meet present and future national security needs in a safe, secure, and efficient manner.
Q-6 is offering an exciting opportunity to be a part of the Detonation Science and Technology Group. The Group is seeking an enthusiastic and driven individual who can bring skills in program management in support of the W93/Mk7 Product Realization Team (PRT) in Q-6. The successful candidate must be responsible for managing a multi-year effort to design, develop, produce, and qualify hardware for inclusion into the W93/Mk7. The selected candidate will assist group management in the development and implementation of programmatic scope, integrate across internal and external organizations, collaborate with hardware managers, manage and mitigate risk, use excellent communication skills to negotiate scope and deliverables and ensure program needs and status are clearly understood, and have outstanding teaming skills, while simultaneously demonstrating the ability to work well with a diverse team of technical and programmatic staff that assists in Q-6's vision, strategic, and tactical planning. This position reports directly to the Q-6 Group Leader.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Program Management: Knowledge of and experience in program management of technical work, including the development of program work scope and resource-loaded schedules with fixed milestones, priorities, budget(s), identifying and managing risks (threats and opportunities), creating and maintaining integrated master schedules (IMS) and resource pools, reporting schedule variance, defining and tracking associated schedule variance corrective actions to closure, and using automated cost and schedule control tools including Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) development, application and performance reporting (KPIs, KPMs, etc.).
Technical Knowledge: Ability to develop technical working knowledge of the product realization and component development process per DPBPS requirements.
Scheduling: Excellent organizational skills and the ability to meet schedule and deliverables for multiple concurrent projects with a range of priorities; knowledge and ability to balance scope, resources and priorities, and use software for planning, tracking, and efficiently mobilizing resources to assure scope completion.
Finance: Knowledge of managing cost and schedule commitments for small and/or less complex projects. Entry-level knowledge of budget reporting along with outward planning of resources.
Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with and cultivate strong teaming culture across all levels of technical and programmatic staff.
Leading Teams: Demonstrated ability to de-conflict situations and work with stakeholders to uphold priority of LANL W93/Mk7 schedule needs.
Communication: Strong interpersonal, presentation, and written skills demonstrated by successful relationship building, conducting briefs, and creating presentations and reports. Demonstrated experience in developing and nurturing effective working relationships with internal and external customers, as well as communication with all levels of an organization.
Education/Experience: Position requires a bachelor's degree in a technical or STEM related field, from an accredited institution and at least 5 years of directly related technical and project management experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation
Desired Qualifications:
Previous systems engineering and/or operational experience is preferred.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Work Schedule: This position will have access to the 5/40 or 9/80 schedules.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. - Experience with Program Managing Software
- Project Management Professional (PMP) Certified
