Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities:What We’re Looking For:
If you are a confident and motivated Technical Project Manager and have eight or more years of experience in program/project management support of technical projects, then you will be excited about the Technical Project Manager opening with Iridium’s Engineering and Operations team. As an Iridium Technical Project Manager, you’ll ensure the completion of projects in support of the Iridium Commercial PNT (position, navigation and timing) programs. These projects are critical to the future of the Iridium business, to our value-added partners and end customers, and are often in support of large, complex, and high-profile technology programs focused on end-to-end system solutions and new product development. If you have specialized knowledge of project management fundamentals, such as risk management, schedule management, budget management, and subcontractor management, you could be our ideal candidate!
What You’ll Do:
- This position operates in a fast-paced environment and must provide coordination, technical oversight support, and play a role in the ultimate success of the project delivery while navigating interdependencies among manufacturing partner engineering teams, Iridium hardware and software teams, and Iridium product management.
- Coordinate efforts between Manufacturing Partner Engineering teams, the Iridium Engineering teams and Iridium Product Management teams to ensure integration specifications and schedules are met
- Develop and support the maintenance of a tactical execution schedule with direct reporting into the higher-level program schedule
- Manage hardware and software demand planning, work center planning and prioritization, resource logistical coordination for time critical operations, and non-conformance resolution, setting personal priorities and assisting others with executing assigned tasks
- Manage technical and programmatic risks/opportunities, including identifying, documenting, presenting, developing mitigation plans and driving outcomes within program acceptable levels
- Provide clear communication of status, critical paths, and challenges; recommended solutions to leadership, while also providing clear constraints and mentorship to the support teams
- Support technical teams in identifying, prioritizing, and solving technical uncertainties
- Partner with stakeholders to understand their business needs to support the requirements and planning basis in a methodical and organized manner, including use of configuration management practices (CM)
- Serve as a sounding board for strategic project decisions and provide recommendations for program design and delivery
- Effectively manage and prioritize assignments for self and others within the project team
- Build stable working relationships with internal personnel
- Participate in broader commercial team activities
What You’ll Need to Succeed:
- Bachelor’s degree required; concentration in Engineering, Mathematics, or Science preferred
- 8+ years’ related program/project management experience, preferably in a large, global organization
- 8+ years’ experience in assisting with complex technical projects, preferably direct experience in telecommunications, chipsets, ground networks, electronic product development/manufacturing, or satellites
- Experience managing Scrum development projects
- Strong knowledge of project management methodologies
- Strong familiarity with tools and software applications that support project management and project portfolio management
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey information to cross-departmental groups or those unfamiliar with the topic
- An analytical mindset, with the ability to understand a situation or problem and think critically to make decisions and come up with out-of-the-box solutions
- Proactivity in providing feedback and sharing your knowledge with others
- The ability to prioritize your own tasks and potentially the tasks of others while making sure deadlines are met
Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:
- Scrum or other Agile methodology certification a plus
- Experience collaborating globally across timelines and cultures
We’ll also need you to:
- Be able to work onsite at our headquarters location in McLean, VA
- Be able to travel up to 5%
- U.S. Citizenship is required for this position
Work Environment:
This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse, and printer.
