SUMMARY
The Technical Writer 2 will work as part of a team responsible for day-to-day creation and maintenance of content. This position will also work across the technical publications group as needed to support technical illustration, publication design, and production. The individual must be self-directed and require minimal guidance or supervision.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is primarily exposed to an office environment and occasionally a shop manufacturing environment or a customer’s facility or job-site. The employee is periodically required to travel. Exposures at a shop manufacturing environment or a customer’s site can include moving mechanical parts, heights, fumes or airborne particles, and outside weather conditions. The employee is exposed to travel hazards associated with airline and automobile travel. The employee is occasionally exposed to electrical hazards, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in a shop manufacturing environment or a vendor’s facility environment can be very loud.

SUMMARY
The Technical Writer 2 will work as part of a team responsible for day-to-day creation and maintenance of content. This position will also work across the technical publications group as needed to support technical illustration, publication design, and production. The individual must be self-directed and require minimal guidance or supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ability to represent the publications group on cross-functional project teams.
- Coordinate with illustration and publishing disciplines on individual and ad-hoc projects.
- Work with subject matter experts including design engineers, technicians, vendors and others to write and develop accurate and complete technical content including but not limited to operation, maintenance and service manuals.
- Review and/or copy edit content developed by other members of the team.
- Plan, prepare and edit technical materials for release to customers.
- Generate ideas for improving content and workflow.
SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENT
No supervisory requirement
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Excellent grammar, writing, and editing skills.
- 4-year degree in technical writing, English, drafting or other applicable major or five (5) years of relevant experience.
- Familiar with FrameMaker; Autodesk Inventor, Solidworks, Inventor or other CAD platform; Acrobat Professional and MS Office software.
- Solid written communication skills; technical writing, editing and documentation experience.
- At least 5 years’ experience or equivalent education working with and/or interpreting engineering data or engineering drawings.
- Familiar with FrameMaker, AutoCad, MS Office, DITA XML authoring software such as OxygenXML, and EDM software.
- Ability to handle multiple assignments and priorities.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Technical writing experience with an original equipment manufacturer.
- Bachelor’s degree in related discipline.
- Using DITA Open Toolkit to manage content.
- Experience preparing illustrations, photographs, diagrams and charts for use in technical manuals.
