Responsibilities & Qualifications:The successful candidate should be prepared to initially work from 8 am to 5 pm, with the understanding that the shift will to 12 pm to 9 pm April, 2025.
Role Overview:
We are currently seeking a Beverage Packaging Customer Solution Center (CSC) Pilot Line Technician to join our team at Novelis’ Global Research and Technology Center (NGRTC) in Kennesaw, Georgia. The incumbent will be a part of the Beverage Packaging CSC, working in collaboration with technologists, engineers, and scientists to develop process and product solutions for Novelis and its aluminum beverage packaging customers.
The Pilot Line Technician will provide technical assistance to both Novelis' internal and external customers and serve as a consultant to design improvements and quality evaluations for projects using the Pilot Line equipment. The incumbent will safely operate the pilot line equipment and related instruments while delivering promptly accurate data for the steady flow of services and projects while continuing to expand the understanding of the manufacturing process (e.g., can and end making, etc.). The work being conducted is generally associated with R&D activities and the incumbent must be able to constantly adapt to new conditions, plan what needs to be done to achieve the output, properly set up the equipment, and ensure the safe and proper operation of the equipment throughout the process to deliver accurate results.
Responsibilities:
- Safely operate pilot line equipment and related instruments while delivering accurate data for the steady flow of services and projects, while continuing to expand the understanding of the manufacturing process (e.g. can and end making, etc).
- Routinely sets up and validates equipment, and develops knowledge related to solving, maintenance, and sophisticated application/operation of equipment and processes.
- Works under limited supervision where tasks are defined by the manager, project leader, or senior technical staff.
- Maintains areas of responsibility related to housekeeping and environmental needs.
- Maintain pilot plant equipment and lab instruments. Ensure that pre-use and work instructions and SDS are up to date and effective.
- Operate equipment in a manner that optimally completes the project objectives and deadlines
- Maintain equipment using preventative procedures and repairing when necessary
- Identify process improvement opportunities and implement them when appropriate
- Concisely communicate efforts, progress, achievements, problems, and missteps in a timely manner.
- Supply technical knowledge and experience for assigned test planning projects and services
- Collates data from basic tasks; typically provides data or results for interpretation, may occasionally perform some analysis and interpretation
- Document project/process improvement results within the project context that can be used to contribute to formal reports.
Qualifications
- Entry to this level typically requires a minimum of 4 years of validated experience, and a high school diploma and/or certification/vocational degree, or equivalent experience
- Possesses basic knowledge of specialized testing, fabrication, and manufacturing equipment and processes
- Possesses basic knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, etc. principles
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write and modify standard operating procedures (SOPs). Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees or customers
- Possesses basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email, etc.
- Proficient with micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, etc.
- Motivated, goal-oriented, ethical, and challenge-driven.
Preferred Experience
- Some previous experience in a laboratory setting.
- Experience with testing equipment.
- Experience with ISO 17025 or other recognized quality systems is preferable.
