Position Summary
MEPPI's Transportation Systems Division (TSD) is seeking a skilled Mechanical Technician II to perform electro-mechanical assembly of TSD products. The successful candidate will be responsible for assembling and integrating various electro-mechanical components, ensuring high-quality standards and adherence to specifications. This role requires a meticulous attention to detail, proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, and a strong understanding of both mechanical and electrical systems. The Mechanical Technician II will collaborate with cross-functional teams to support the production process, troubleshoot and resolve assembly issues, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Essential Functions
- Perform any of the Technician I duties and responsibilities as needed.
- Perform electro-mechanical assembly of Transportation products according to drawings, bills of materials, procedures, check-sheets, and other work instructions.
- Perform complex wiring, routing and connections on Transportation products according to drawings and Company specifications.
- Assist Senior Technicians with high-voltage insulation testing.
- Use various hand and power tools correctly and safely to assemble sub-assemblies and products.
- Conduct rework / repair of non-conforming product as instructed.
- Read and understand technical drawings, mechanical blueprints, electrical schematics, and bills of materials.
- Perform verification of subassemblies and/or assemblies for defects by using appropriate gages, meters and tools and visual checking. Identify and correct defects appropriately.
- Complete process check sheets, daily production sheets and other daily reporting and paperwork according to Company procedures.
- Provide input and/or assistance to others developing processes, procedures and instructions as necessary.
- Know MEPPI’s Quality, Safety and Environmental Policies. Be able to fully discuss the importance of these policies and how they impact work.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in electronics or related technical field with minimum of 2 years of experience in assembly/manufacturing or repair/servicing of electrical or durable goods products or equivalent education and experience.
- Intermediate mechanical skills as demonstrated by the proper use of hand and power tools.
- Intermediate electrical skills as demonstrated by proper wiring and assembly techniques.
- Applicable safety/operations training required to operate certain machinery and equipment (e.g., powered industrial truck, crane).
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings, mechanical diagrams, electrical schematics, and bills of materials.
- Ability to judge the quality of sub-assemblies and assemblies produced compared to established standards, drawings, and instructions.
- General computer skills with emphasis on MS Office and ERP systems.
