Pharmacy Technician- Rotating day and evening
Position Summary:
Assists Pharmacist in drug distribution, product preparation, inventory control, and report generation in accordance with established procedures and regulatory agency standards. Assists in maintaining and troubleshooting equipment on patient care areas and pharmacies (e.g., automatic dispensing and prepackaging machines, etc.). Assists the Pharmacist in more complex batch preparations according to a predetermined recipe. Assists the Pharmacist or Department in more complex record keeping and report generation.
Essential Job Duties:
Greets patients, visitors, and employees in a courteous manner. Answers telephones promptly in a clear and courteous manner. Identifies self to callers and patients by name and department. Takes and relays messages and provides routine information. Responds to inquires politely and promptly. Refers matters outside the scope of own duties to appropriate parties as necessary keeping callers, patients, and visitors informed as needed.
Prepares and labels medication for delivery/transport to Patient Care Units and dispensing to outpatients in accordance with established procedures, under supervision of Registered Pharmacist. Fills unit dose orders, carts, inpatient medications, and emergency medications. Prepares batches of sterile and non-sterile products according to a recipe prepared by a Pharmacist and repackages medication when needed.
Picks up, requisitions, other pharmacy forms, unused or partially used medications, and other designated pharmacy items from the floors as scheduled or assigned by the Pharmacist or supervisor. Assists Pharmacist in reconciling and crediting medication returns.
Creates reports from data available in the automated systems. Updates the patient census at the Omnicell medstation when necessary. Monitors reports for changes in trends. Contacts appropriate outside personnel to repair equipment when necessary.
Prepares carts for filling, including the preparation of nametags and other appropriate labels and replacing and cleaning drawers. Processes updates and transfers in the medication carts prior to or at the time of delivery. Delivers/transports medications as assigned by the Pharmacist or supervisor. Delivers/transports stock medications, unit dose medication, patient-assigned medications, unit dose carts, outpatient prescriptions, IV medications, sterile products, and controlled substances. Medication deliveries may involve lifting boxes and pushing/pulling medication delivery carts in excess of 15 pounds. Delivers to offsite patient care area or pharmacy.
Orders, receives, unpacks, and stores drugs and supplies in accordance with established procedures and storage requirements. Informs Registered Pharmacist and Lead Technician of stock needs and of differences noted in products received. Monitors expiration dates and rotates stock in pharmacy and Omnicells. Assists in set up, maintenance and repair of equipment. Fills stock requisitions. Maintains work area in a clean and orderly fashion. Monitors appropriateness of drug storage on the floors. Assists with patient care area inspections of medication storage.
Maintains accurate files, statistics and records of medication requests, issuance and returns. Assists with data entry in Excel. Ensures forms for patient admission, transfer and discharge are processed. Ensures pharmacy billings forms and other forms are delivered to appropriate departments. Assists in orientation and training of new technicians, interns and students. Assists in coordination of Quality Assurance programs.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Criteria
- High School Diploma/GED
- PTCB Certification or NHA Certification
- New York State Pharmacy Technician License
- 1- year experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital or retail environment

Salary Range:
$35.61-$44.20/Hourly
