Job Description
M&J is currently seeking a Telecommunications and IT Installation Manager for the construction of a new federal agency building in Maryland. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, configuration, and security of the building’s internal telecommunications systems, wiring infrastructure, and localized IT networks
Overview
The Telecommunications and IT Installation Manager serves as the onsite M&J representative and oversight of a large greenfield project in support of a Federal construction project in the Washington DC area. The role will oversee and implement effective installation of telecommunications and IT infrastructure and related equipment, as well as the design and development of secure and scalable networking solutions.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the installation of all telecommunications and IT infrastructure, including voice, data, and video wiring, routers, switches, servers, and related hardware.
- Design and implement secure, scalable networking solutions to support the building’s operational needs.
- Ensure that all telecommunication and IT systems are installed in compliance with federal and local regulations, security protocols, and industry best practices.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to integrate IT systems with the building’s physical infrastructure.
- Manage the installation of secure access points, firewalls, and encryption systems to protect the building’s telecommunications and IT networks.
- Conduct system testing, troubleshooting, and quality control inspections to ensure optimal functionality and security.
- Monitor progress and quality of work performed by subcontractors and technicians, ensuring all work is completed on time and within budget.
- Provide training and support to end-users and building personnel to ensure proper use of the telecommunications and IT systems.
- Develop and maintain documentation for installed systems, including wiring diagrams, system configurations, and security protocols.
- Stay updated on emerging telecommunications technologies, IT security trends, and federal security standards applicable to the project.
Required Skills & Experience
- 10+ years of experience in telecommunications and IT infrastructure installation, preferably on large-scale construction projects.
- Strong understanding of IT security protocols, network configuration, and telecommunications standards.
- Proven experience managing the installation of secure, scalable telecommunication and IT systems.
- Hands-on experience with wiring installations, hardware setup, and systems testing.
- Familiarity with federal IT security standards, including FISMA and NIST guidelines.
- Excellent communication and project management skills, with the ability to collaborate with technical teams and stakeholders.
- Industry certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), or equivalent are highly desirable.
- Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred.
