About The Position
**Job Title:** Registered Nurse - Observation **Job Specialty:** Nursing - Observation **Job Duration:** Not specified **Shift:** Day, 13 shifts per schedule, alternating weekends and holidays **Guaranteed Hours:** Not specified **Experience:** One year of acute care nursing experience preferred for areas other than medical-surgical or step-down **License:** Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with current New York RN license/registration. BSN required. **Certifications:** - BLS certification (through the American Heart Association) is required. - ACLS certification (through the American Heart Association) is required for all RNs, except for NICU and OR RNs. All newly hired, inexperienced nurses must receive this certification within 12 months, and all newly hired, experienced nurses must receive this certification within 6 months. - PALS certification required for specific departments such as PACU, Pediatrics, Emergency Department, and others. - NRP certification is required for all RNs working in specific units like the Mother-Baby unit, Labor & Delivery, and NICU, to be obtained within 6 months of hire. **Must-Have:** - Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written). - Ability to work in a high-stress and fast-paced environment. **Job Description:** - Provide direct patient care and collaborate with patients, families, peers, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team. - Assess patient needs, plan care, implement and evaluate medical and nursing regimens. - Demonstrate leadership skills and commitment to professional accountability and growth. - Adhere to performance standards, policies, and behaviors. - Provide respectful care that promotes mutual respect, shared decision-making, and informed consent, regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation or gender identity, religion, or language. - Utilize the nursing process to address biophysical, psychosocial, educational, safety/environmental, and discharge planning needs. - Administer blood and blood products according to policy. - Integrate patient rights and nursing ethics into work practice. - Adhere to infection control standards and the Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals. - Delegate activities to ancillary staff per state regulations. - Support, promote, and practice within the professional nursing practice model and Magnet model. - Participate in performance improvement initiatives and complete competency requirements. - Attend mandatory in-services and staff meetings. - Utilize cost containment practices. - Assume charge nurse responsibilities as needed. **Core Competencies:** - Teamwork and adaptability - Professional role modeling - Assessment skills - Sound problem-solving, judgment, and decision-making skills - Stress tolerance **Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment:** - Exposure to chemicals necessary for tasks with appropriate safeguards. - Ability to move about freely and be stationary for extended periods. - Ability to transport objects and patients safely. - Adaptability in a high-stress environment with multiple interruptions. - Capability to operate computers and other devices continuously. - Ability to concentrate on fine detail with interruptions and remember multiple tasks. **Primary Population Served:** - Neonatal, Infant, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric, Bariatric - Patients with various specific needs, including exceptional communication, developmental delays, end-of-life care, isolation precautions, and cultural needs.
