About the Job
The TEMPEST Certification Manager/Inspector will lead and manage the implementation and oversight of TEMPEST (Telecommunications Electronics Material Protected from Emanating Spurious Transmissions) certification and inspection processes. The role involves ensuring that equipment and facilities meet strict standards for preventing data compromise through electronic emissions. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of TEMPEST standards, possess certification in TEMPEST testing, and have experience in security management and compliance in a government or defense-related environment. Active Secret clearance or higher is required.
Responsibilities:
- TEMPEST Compliance Management:
- Oversee and manage the certification, inspection, and evaluation of systems, equipment, and facilities for TEMPEST compliance.
- Ensure adherence to national and international standards such as NSTISSAM TEMPEST/1-92 and others applicable to the agency or organization.
- Conduct risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities in electronic systems related to emissions security (EMSEC).
- Inspection and Testing:
- Perform hands-on inspections and tests of equipment, facilities, and infrastructure to detect and mitigate compromising emanations.
- Review and interpret test results, prepare detailed reports, and recommend necessary actions for improving emission security.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to design and implement countermeasures against TEMPEST-related threats.
- Certification Process Oversight:
- Lead the certification process for systems, equipment, and sites requiring TEMPEST approval.
- Liaise with relevant agencies or certification authorities to maintain up-to-date certification status.
- Ensure all equipment and installations meet the required specifications before approval for use.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including test procedures, evaluation reports, risk assessments, and certification status reports.
- Provide regular updates and briefings to senior management and stakeholders on TEMPEST compliance status and risk mitigation strategies.
- Security Management:
- Ensure security policies and procedures related to TEMPEST and electromagnetic emission security are strictly enforced.
- Work closely with security personnel and IT teams to maintain a high standard of information security management.
- Provide training and awareness programs to staff on TEMPEST compliance and security best practices.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Stay current with technological advancements, emerging threats, and regulatory changes in TEMPEST and information security.
- Propose and implement process improvements to ensure ongoing compliance and risk mitigation.
