JOB SUMMARY: Under direct supervision, the Engineering Helper provides assistance and support to ENSTAR's Engineering department with regard to file maintenance, project design/management, and conceptual level drawings.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• AutoCAD: Establish new or modify existing drawings to support estimates (typically conceptual level drawings like a key map or site plan with minimal dimensions).
• Database and file entry: Organize and link project data to GIS system. Review project files to ensure all data is in place.
• Assist with project logistics: Coordinate with Engineers to help develop material lists, secure material quotes, and identify applicable specifications. Research different products from vendors.
• Assist with project design: Help engineers by working with designers/surveyors to complete drawings for a project. May also include site visits to a proposed project to gather field information. Site visits may include flying.
• Assist with construction/project management: Go on field site visits to monitor construction progress and to gather information required to resolve issues encountered during construction. Site visits may include flying.
• Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum second year engineering student.
• Valid Alaska Driver's License and be qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the ENSTAR's Driving Policy.
• Ability to pass a drug, background, credit, past employment, and driving record screening.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management, staff, and the public; exhibit a professional manner in dealing with others in difficult circumstances or to resolve issues.
• Knowledge of basic engineering concepts.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills. Proven ability to prepare clear and understandable written documentation and communication materials.
• Must have the ability to contribute in a team environment or independently.
• Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain accurate records.
• Good understanding of ENSTAR's policies, procedures and processes.
• Good working knowledge of various personal computer business software applications presently used by the ENSTAR such as GIS and AutoCAD.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical computations; detect unobvious facts and issues and exercise resourcefulness in resolving problems.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
• Must maintain a positive work atmosphere through effective interactions and communications with co-workers, customers and management.
• Must maintain a safe environment for co-workers, customers and the public through adherence to established safety standards and timely reporting of potential hazards.
• Must adhere to ENSTAR's policies and procedures related to the code of business ethics, compliance, responsible use of assets, and all applicable state and federal laws.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Sitting, standing, walking, repetitive use of hands/ arms, lifting/ carrying up to 25 lbs., eye/ hand coordination, fine manipulation
