Portland Tennis and Education (PT&E) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering youth through academics, athletics, life skills, and family engagement. We offer comprehensive after-school and summer programs designed to help our scholar-athletes thrive and contribute positively to their communities.
The Opportunity:
As a Tennis and Pickleball Instructor (Coach) at PT&E, you will play a crucial role in shaping the athletic and personal growth of our scholar-athletes. You will also contribute to the expansion and enrichment of our youth and adult public tennis and pickleball programs.
Key Responsibilities:
Youth Program Responsibilities:
Instruction: Plan and deliver engaging tennis and/or pickleball instruction to students in grades K-12 as part of our after-school and summer programs.
Fitness Activities: Lead fitness activities, including warm-ups, drills, and games, that promote physical and mental health.
Data Collection: Participate in meetings and complete all required tracking processes to support our commitment to meaningful data collection and program evaluation.
Equipment Management: Ensure all supplies and equipment are maintained in good condition, keeping program areas clean and organized.
Community Engagement: Maintain a positive, welcoming attitude toward PT&E staff, public tennis patrons, and various stakeholders, serving as an enthusiastic ambassador for the PT&E program and the sport of tennis.
Additional Duties: Perform other tasks as assigned by the Tennis Director and/or Program Director.
Public Tennis and Pickleball Center Responsibilities:
Teaching: Provide group, private, and semi-private tennis lessons to adults and/or youth.
Promotion: Actively promote tennis and pickleball programs to the general public.
Program Development: Track existing program offerings and suggest adjustments as needed to improve engagement and participation.
Community Outreach: Identify and encourage new participants to join public programs.
Additional Duties: Perform other tasks as assigned by the Tennis and Pickleball Managers
Job Requirements:
Experience: Previous experience working with youth and adults in a tennis/pickleball instructional environment.
Instruction Skills: Proven ability to plan, lead, and instruct group and private tennis and/or pickleball lessons.
Diversity Awareness: Ability and willingness to work with students from diverse cultural, academic, and economic backgrounds.
Facilitation: Confidence in planning and facilitating learning activities for groups of students of various ages.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certifications: Current United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) or United States Professional Tennis Registry (USPTR) certification.
Nonprofit Experience: Experience working in a nonprofit, academic, or youth development setting.
Language Skills: Proficiency in Spanish.
Compensation + Benefits
This is a part-time, hourly position, averaging 15-20 hours per week.
The hourly wage for this position is $20.00 to $26.00, depending on experience and qualifications.
After 30 days of employment, we offer health and dental insurance through Kaiser, as well as eligibility to participate in the Oregon Growth Savings Plan.
The schedule for this position is varied and includes evenings and weekends
PT&E provides part time employees with PTO and a personal learning and development stipend to support professional growth.
A pre-employment background and reference check is required for this position.
