About the role: We are seeking a relentless high-energy and ambitious traveling sales hunter, Outside Sales Representative, who thrives on forging powerful connections, uncovering untapped markets, and driving explosive success day in and day out. They will be the driver of significant growth with our Production customers in (Idaho, Eastern Oregon, Western Montana, Eastern Washington, and Northern Utah). This individual will be tasked with achieving and surpassing monthly and annual sales and profit goals established by leadership.
You will manage a diverse territory across multiple states, ensuring comprehensive account coverage. Your strategic planning skills will be essential as you diligently engage with all assigned accounts, and actively seek opportunities to expand our customer base. Providing personalized support and consistent communication will be crucial in fostering strong relationships and driving continued growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sales & Revenue Generation: Execute on strategies to achieve sales targets within a territory
- Territory Management: Ensures all customer agreements, pricing and programs are accurate and communicated to finance and operations, contacts and activities are accurate and up to date in CRM, programs and merchandising are executed with customers and orders are fulfilled and delivered according to customer expectations
- Customer Acquisition, Development & Retention: Identify, prospect and generate new business throughout assigned territory as well as maintain and cultivate existing business
- Sales Planning: Develops and executes a selling plan and process that outlines HOW and WHEN sales goals will be achieved on a monthly, seasonal and annual basis
Essential Job Duties:
- Develops monthly, quarterly and annual sales plans that drive towards territory revenue goal achievement
- Manages all “selling” responsibilities for assigned customers including planning, forecasting, negotiating and closing, maintenance responsibilities such as obtaining completed agreements and credit applications as well as post-sale activities such as sell thru reporting and in some cases customer collections at the Company’s request
- Effectively qualifies and prioritizes opportunities to pursue
- Builds strong relationships with strategic customers through regular in-person visits
- Consistently prospects for new accounts that align with sales plans and DCA brands
- Uses the Company’s CRM, Salesforce, as the exclusive customer management tool for all opportunities, orders, customer contacts and customer “Activity” including among others phone calls, meetings, emails and “Cases” as well as how those were addressed and resolved
- Provides the Company with monthly competitive and industry insights
- Provides the Company’s marketing team with quarterly recommendations for sales campaigns and merchandising solutions
- Attends and participates in scheduled sales meetings and required company events
- Develops, executes and tracks personal sales goals when requested by the Company
- Works regional and if necessary national trade shows as assigned by the Company
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knows how to ask the right questions to identify customer problems/opportunities
- Proven track record in developing and executing profitable, “win-win” solutions
- Knows how to successfully sell and gain placement of an entire brand portfolio
- Solid understanding of retail, wholesale and/or B2B business acumen
- Horticulture and/or landscape management knowledge
- Collaborates well with and motivates others to act with a sense of urgency to deliver results
Minimum Qualifications:
- Required: 5+ years successful track record selling to retailers and wholesalers
- Required: 4-year college degree OR 5+ years of relevant sales work experience
- Required: 5+ years successful track record selling multi-brand/multi-category products
- Required: 5+ years successful track record growing a multi-state territory
- Required: Reliable transportation and ability to travel to customers
- Highly Preferred: Experience/Passion in Horticulture or Agriculture fields, or related fields, like landscaping, garden centers, and/or nurseries
