Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities:As a Gateway Integration & Test Engineer II, you will contribute to the research, development, testing, and sustaining engineering activities of the Iridium services and ground communications infrastructure. In this role, you will be responsible for verifying the reliability and robustness of Iridium products and communication services, have a vested interest in the long-term success of your work, and be highly self-reliant.
What You’ll Do:
- Work collaboratively with software, hardware, and system development engineers
- Integrate, maintain and operate gateway hardware, lab hardware and software systems
- Implement and maintain communication products automated test system and software
- Develop scripts and/or systems to automatically test and validate products, collect test artifacts, produce product test metrics and generate reports
- Recreate and isolate reported software and/or hardware defects using test infrastructure and document non-compliances
- Identify test, programmatic, and services implementation risks within your scope
- Research and implement hardware upgrades of ground infrastructure and test systems
- Maintain configuration management of the test automation software and scripts
- Decompose requirements into verifiable test objectives
- Analyze test results; generate and present reports based on test execution and analysis
- Conduct on-site customer acceptance tests
What You’ll Need to Succeed:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field experience
- 2+ years’ experience with test execution and analysis, test automation, and/or software development
- Experience developing software in C, C++, C#, Java, Python and/or other computer languages
- General knowledge of systems integration
- A good understanding of software development and production best practices
- General systems and/or troubleshooting experience
- A solid understanding of Linux and/or Unix operating systems
- The ability to appropriately and safely work with laboratory test equipment (network analyzers, state machine driven traffic simulators, protocol analyzers, etc.)
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate to fellow engineers, a range of behaviors and factors as they relate to issues and performance
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Windows and Office product suite
- A results-driven mindset with a sense of ownership
- A drive for continuous innovation, adding value, and reducing cycle time and cost
- A desire to develop professionally, continuously learn, and share knowledge with others
Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:
- Knowledge of network switches and routers
- Cisco or other network certifications
- Previous experience with the following:
- Software management tools (JIRA and/or Bamboo)
- Agile software development process
- High-availability software and hardware systems
- Machine virtualization, specifically VMware Desktop and ESXi
- Databases such as Oracle, MySQL, and/or SQL Server
We’ll Also Need You To:
- Be able to work in the office up to 3 days a week to foster collaboration with the team and stakeholders
- Be willing and able to travel up to 15 days annually
- Be willing and able to be on-call to support operational issues
- This position directly performs under, supports, or is exposed to a U.S. government contract. To comply with the requirements of that U.S. government contract, applicants for this position must be U.S. citizens
Work Environment:
This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse, and printer.
