Our innovative team in Longmont, CO are designing and deploying industry leading satellite mechanisms, deployable structures, solar array systems and space antennas to the global space market. Summary
We have a current opportunity for a Test Engineer located at our facility in Longmont, CO. In this role you will interface with all functions of engineering as well as project management to aid in coordinating testing and development efforts for product development and project deliverables. You will provide support to prototyping and development teams to develop test setups for initial functionality demonstration and evaluation as well as Qualification and Flight hardware. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in the space sector, with an emphasis on RF antennas and systems.
Responsibilities
- Develop and manage high-value flight hardware test plans, from concept to execution.
- Develop test requirements and verification methods through close collaboration with the Systems Engineering team.
- Interface with the customer, negotiate test requirements and methods, jointly develop plans, and communicate and report on test progress.
- Collaborate with the product development team to integrate and perform hands on work on development hardware to incorporate changes in system design to meet requirements.
- Identify product integration and testing methods and test fixturing for risk mitigation, prototype development and requirement verification.
- Plan and perform functional testing, including RF tests, and environmental testing of hardware, including vibration testing, thermal cycling, thermal vacuum, and other qualification tests.
- Develop and improve test capabilities of in-house facilities and interface Redwire groups to leverage existing test capabilities across the business.
- Collaborate with various areas of the business, such as technicians, product and technical leadership, and program managers.
- Install/assemble active RF boxes, safely powering and operating boxes, and executing overall component and system-level performance testing.
- Some limited travel may be required.
Ideal Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Aerospace Engineering or other space-related discipline with a minimum of 2 or more years of industry/related experience (* Master’s or PhD degree in a related field may substitute for 2 years of experience).
- Some experience with RF design and equipment (understanding of RF theory and/or EE system theory). Willing to consider relevant industry experience in lieu of a four year degree.
- Experience in overseeing and processing data from environmental tests such as vibration, shock, thermal cycling and/or thermal-vacuum testing.
- Hands-on experience with electronics and modifying electrical hardware.
- Experience assembling and/or testing hardware (for space environments preferred).
- Experience with test equipment and bench top measurements for circuits and RF systems, including Vector Network Analyzers, and other RF test hardware.
- Familiar with writing test documentation, such as test plans, procedures, and reports.
Desired Skills
- Experience with preparing and leading project stage-gate meetings (such as CDR, TRR, etc.) and interfacing with customers.
- Experience with RF antenna test methods is a plus.
- Experience with the PCB lifecycle for RF hardware.
- Experience with PCB modification methods and techniques.
- Experience using CAD to design and fabricate test systems, fixturing, and/or mechanisms.
- Experience and training in safe handling protocols for flight hardware, including cleanroom and ESD standards.
- Experience with test-analysis correlation, including the ability to understand, interpret, and validate analysis predictions through test methods.
- Experience with generating requirements and establishing appropriate verification criteria.
- Experience with data acquisition equipment, programming equipment, and LabVIEW.
- Experience in supporting technical risk identification, mitigation planning and mitigation execution.
