About the Job
For the past 10 years, TEACH has been supporting students 1-on-1 and in small group settings with exceptional academic, test prep, and enrichment lessons. Our strong connections to local schools and non-profit organizations offer unique opportunities for tutor contractors to be classroom instructors in addition to providing local families with 1-on-1 support. At TEACH we believe tutoring can be a bridge that helps make content more accessible for all students.
We are looking for dedicated and enthusiastic educators who are ready to dismantle educational barriers that students and families face and open up educational opportunities through tutoring.
Tutors can make their own schedules and are independent contractors with TEACH. There is no minimum hour requirement. Tutors who continue working with TEACH long-term have opportunities to become Experienced Tutors and even potential opportunities for part-time or full-time employment. Availability during school hours (9am-12pm; 12pm-2:30pm) and/or after school hours (2:30-5pm) is highly desirable for classroom instructional opportunities.
Priority Tutor Positions for the 2024-2025 School Year
We are looking for 2-3 tutors with prior high school classroom teaching experience to join our daytime high school Math instructor team. Prior SAT/ACT teaching experience is not required but preferred.
High School Math Small Group Instructor
Daytime hours working with 4-20 students in person (amount of students vary per project):
- Test Prep Small Group Instructor:
- Schedule: 9 am-12pm
- Tuesdays and Thursdays
- Location: North Philly
- Schedule: 9 am-12pm
- Test Prep Classroom Instructor:
- Schedule: TBD
Required Qualifications
- 1+ years experience teaching in a classroom setting
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited university
- Willingness to learn SAT and ACT on the job with TEACH
- Available to travel locally in the Greater Philadelphia & Camden areas for in-person lessons
- Ability to complete federal, PA, and NJ state background checks and clearances
- A zest for learning and the spark to share and build knowledge with students!
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience teaching or tutoring SAT and/or ACT
- 2 or more years of experience tutoring or teaching in a classroom setting
- Understanding of student-centered and culturally responsive learning practices
Instructor Responsibilities
- Prepare engaging lessons and materials to meet students' needs
- Connect with students from diverse backgrounds and educational experiences to maximize their academic potential and to help them achieve their goals
- Communicate with TEACH office staff and parents/guardians to coordinate tutoring lessons and check-in about student progress in a punctual manner and with attention to detail
- Participate in professional development opportunities to improve tutoring practice and connect with inspiring educators from around the greater Philadelphia area
- Submit time-sensitive information using our database and other online documentation
Compensation
$60/hour- small group Math instructor position at NJ school (immediate need)
$100/hour- future lead ACT/SAT classroom teaching opportunities in the long and short term (opportunity to grow into this role) (immediate need)
