Summary:
Thai Language Instructor for the Marine Special Operations Command (MARSOC) Marine Raider Regiment (MRR) 1st Marine Raider Battalion (MRB) at Camp Pendleton, CA. The Thai Language Instructor Provide language instruction to MARSOC 1st Marine Raider Battalion (MRB) out of Camp Pendleton, CA, for foreign language and culture Initial Acquisition Training (IAT) in Thai. The instructors shall provide relevant language and culture training to adult learners as part of a pre-deployment package. By the end of the training, all students will be familiar with basics of Thai culture, and will be able to speak some basic “get around town” phrases.
Specific duties may include, but are not limited to:
Provide Initial Acquisition Training (IAT) and Sustainment Training (SET) language training to develop speaking and listening skills of adult students.
The instructor shall assign homework and complete weekly assessments IAW Government program of instruction.
- The instructor will provide continuous feedback on student progress and recommend additional activities for the student to complete as required.
Instructor shall complete the grade tracking sheet and progress reports as required.
Instructor shall complete the tutoring log to annotate students’ attendance in tutoring and what was accomplished during tutoring hours.
Required Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
At least 2 years of recent (completed within the last 18 months) experience teaching foreign language at the secondary level or higher (a minimum of 200 classroom hours) and a bachelor’s degree in teaching, education, language, or a closely related field to be approved by Government.
OR
At least 6 years of recent (completed within the last 18 months), related experience teaching at the secondary level or higher (a minimum of 600 classroom hours) and a bachelor’s degree in any field.
English Language Qualifications:
Completed formal study of the English Language and achieved the score indicated on any of the below:
- At least ILR level 2 as measured by DoD test.
- A score of 553 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) PBT, or TOEFL iBT score as follows: 83 minimum overall and at least 20 each in Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing.
- A score of no less than 82 on the English Comprehension Level (ECL) test.
- At least a proficiency level 2 or Advanced-Low (ACTFL) on an OPI.
Target Language Qualifications:
Language Instructor will possess general professional proficiency (a language rating of ILR level 2+ or ACTFL Advanced-High) or higher in the specified foreign language.
Proficiency will be demonstrated by one of the following:
- Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) or 2-skill OPI from the DLIFLC.
- An interview certified by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL).
- Defense Language Proficiency Test.

Location: work will be performed at the 1st MRB Language Training Facility (LTF) at Camp Pendleton, CA
Travel: Travel will be required from 25 April - 1 May 2021.
