Theme Lead: Actinide, Geosciences, and Separation Sciences (AGSS) - Argonne National Laboratory

About the Job
Provide administrative management and oversight of research activities in the areas including Actinide, Geochemical, and Separation Sciences (20%). Conducts world-leading research in one or more areas within AGSS (80%). Reports directly to the Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division Director. Specific responsibilities are:
+ Conduct world-leading research in separation sciences, heavy element chemistry, and/or geochemical interfacial processes
+ Contribute to the development and implementation of the strategic plan for the Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division and within the AGSS Theme
+ Manage theme research and administrative activities with the support of AGSS group leaders and Division administration
+ Provide leadership and support for AGSS efforts to respond to new funding opportunities and maintain core programs
+ Ensure staff access to facilities to perform their research
+ Ensure productive relationships with sponsors
+ Communicate needs of the Theme to Division leadership
+ Provide leadership for safety and security
+ Foster career development for all staff members within AGSS
+ Support diversity and inclusion within the Division
+ Other duties as assigned by the Division Director
Position Requirements
+ This level of knowledge and skill is normally acquired through advanced formal education (usually Ph.D. degree level in chemistry, physics, engineering, or geoscience) and 15+ years of experience in research including directing the research of Ph.D.-level scientists and engineers
+ Comprehensive skill in effectively developing and managing fundamental research programs, research staff, and resources
+ Good Communication and interpersonal relationship skills
+ Research skills in separation sciences, heavy element, processes at geochemical interfaces
+ Extensive experience in writing and defending research proposals and archival journal manuscripts
+ Considerable knowledge of general physical, inorganic, solution, and interfacial chemistries. Considerable skill in formulating, planning, prioritizing, conducting creative, innovative research, and skills in mentoring research staff
+ Good knowledge of DOE and Argonne policies, rules, and regulations​
+ Ability to model Argonne’s Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork
