Certified Therapeutic Recreation Assistant
Lord Chamberlain is hiring a full-time TRD (40 Hrs/wk) for our Skilled long term care unit and a full-time TRD (40 Hrs/wk) for our short term subacute rehab unit.
The primary purpose of these positions is to assist the Director of Recreation in planning, developing and implementing daily activity programs as well as documenting resident assessments, progress notes, MDS, and care plans
Qualifications:
Degree in Recreation or related field. A related field shall include, but not limited to psychology, sociology, art, music or education.
State of CT Certification in Therapeutic Recreation or currently enrolled in the certification program ( or eligible for Certification)
Previous experience in Recreation field preferred.

Purpose of Your Job Position
The primary purpose of your position is to asist the Recreational Therapy Director in planning, organizing, developing and implementing activities of the recreation Dept.
Delegation of Authority
As Recreational Therapist, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.
Job Functions

Duties and Responsibilities
· Arrange transportation for field trips when necessary.
· Other job duties as deemed necessary and appropriate, or as may be directed by the Recreational Therapy Director and/or Administrator.
Safety and Sanitation
· Assist the Recreational Therapy Director in developing safety standards for the activity department.
· Ensure that department work areas are maintained in a clean, sanitary, and safe manner.
· Follow established departmental policies and procedures, including appropriate dress codes.
· Participate in all fire safety and disaster preparedness drills in a safe and professional manner.
· Assist the Infection Control Committee in the development, implementation, and revising of written aseptic and isolation techniques relative to activities.
· Assist in developing, implementing and maintaining a program for monitoring communicable and/or infectious diseases among residents and personnel.
· Follow established infection control procedures when isolation precautions become necessary.
· Assist in developing, implementing and maintaining a procedure for reporting hazardous conditions or equipment.
· Follow established procedures governing the use of labels and MSDSs.
· Report missing/illegible labels and MSDSs to the Recreational Therapy Director or other designated person.
· Attend appropriate in-service training classes prior to performing tasks that may involve potential exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious diseases, etc.
· Follow established procedures governing exposure to blood/body fluids.
Care Plan and Assessment Functions
· Assist the Recreational Therapy Director in developing preliminary and comprehensive assessments of the activity needs of each resident.
· Assist the Recreational Therapy Director in developing a written plan of care (preliminary and comprehensive) for each resident that identifies the problems/needs of the resident and the goals to be accomplished for each problem/need identified.
· Encourage the resident/family to participate in the development and review of the resident's plan of care.
· Prepare care plans and assessments to be presented and discussed at each committee meeting.
· Recreation personnel are to be aware of the care plan and that care plans are used in providing daily activities for the resident.
· Review nurses' notes to determine if the activity care plan is being followed. Report problem areas to the Recreational Therapy Director or DNS.
· Review and revise care plans and assessments as necessary, but at least quarterly.
· Develop and maintain a good rapport with all services involved with the care plan to ensure that a team effort is achieved in developing a comprehensive plan of care.
Budget and Planning Functions
· Assist in forecasting needs of the department.
· Assist in preparing and planning the recreation department's budget for equipment, supplies, and labor to be submitted to the Administrator for review, recommendations, and approval.
· Assist in maintaining current written records of department expenditures and assure that adequate financial records and cost reports are submitted to the Recreational Therapy Director upon request or as necessary.
Resident Rights
· Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information.
· Knock before entering a resident's room.
· Know the resident's rights and responsibilities, including the right of refusal.
· Review complaints and grievances made by the resident and make a written/oral report to the Recreational Therapy Director indicating what action(s) were taken to resolve the complaint or grievance. Follow facility's established procedures.
· Participate in resident/group council meetings as requested and provide support services to such council.
· Maintain a written record of the resident's complaints and/or grievances that indicates the action taken to resolve the complaint and the current status of the complaint.
Miscellaneous
· Be prepared to handle emergencies as they come up.
· Be sure that appropriate protective clothing/devices are on hand for handling infectious waste and/or blood/body fluids.
· Work with the facility's consultants as necessary and implement recommended changes as required.
· Assist in scheduling movies, planning parties, and providing games/activities for residents.
· Encourage residents to participate in hobbies and crafts. Provide materials as necessary.
