Summary:
Meta is seeking a Thermal Engineer Intern to join our Hardware Engineering team. Our servers and data centers are the foundation upon which our rapidly scaling infrastructure efficiently operates and upon which our innovative services are delivered. The intern will work closely with design engineers in the team to test and validate our fully customized server hardware and thermal technologies.

Thermal Engineer Intern Responsibilities:
1. Measure thermal performance of servers using proper tools and test plans and qualify operation
2. Develop and publish test reports and communicate findings to team members
3. Analyze and simulate server cooling schemes and thermal technologies
4. Execute tests according to plan while keeping a thorough procedural record and data log
5. Provide input on fan control algorithm optimizations
6. Engage hardware team to ensure proper component design
7. Diagnose and root cause component failures
8. Perform CFD analysis to solve the thermal challenges in the server/storage/network system
Minimum Qualifications:

9. Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
10. Knowledge of fluid dynamic and heat transfer (conduction/convection/radiation)
11. Familiar with lab equipment, data acquisition systems, air flow chambers, and/or environmental chamber
12. Coding experience in Python, Matlab, and/or C/C++
13. Experience in 3D CAD or CFD software (Ex: Solidworks, Creo, Flotherm, Icepack, etc)
14. Troubleshooting and analytical skills
15. Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment

16. Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a Masters or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
17. Experience with Linux and/or command line interface
18. Experience performing thermal optimizations of heat sink, fans, and/or cold plates
19. Familiar with server and storage architecture and components
20. Familiar with data center architecture and environments
21. Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op

$6,205/month to $11,134/month + benefits
