Job Summary:
Tool/Gear Regrind Technicians are responsible to regrind used tools such as drills, gun drills, end mills, reamers, welding torches, punch cutters, hobs, spline broaches, ring gear broaches, and inspect reground tools to support manufacturing operations with the highest quality.
ALL APPLICANTS CHOSEN FOR THIS POSTION ARE REQUIRED TO PASS AND COMPLETE A 12-MONTH LONG CERTIFICATION PROGRAM IN ORDER TO SHOW TECHNICAL COMPETENCY.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Understanding gear cutting processes, tool regrind processes, wheel dressing processes, gears and tools inspection.
- Regrind round tools and gear tools on CNC machines such as Walter grinders, Utsunomiya grinder, Makino grinder, Mitsubishi grinder, Nachi grinders.
- Set up machines, confirm tooling and program for specific part, and any other information to ensure quality part.
- Perform machines check and calibration per schedule.
- Inspect quality of each reground tool and make necessary adjustments to ensure part quality.
- Assist Tool Preset Room (TPR) to ensure part quality, and to prevent production down time.
- Work closely with related departments to prevent minimum machines down time.
- Precision grinding of tools with tolerance as tight as 10 microns.
- Inspect reground tools at 100% frequency by using Zoller Pom Basic, Mitutoyo microscope.
- Inspect gear product by using gear measurement machines.
- Maintains safety and clean working environment by complying with all manufacturing and safety guidelines, procedures and regulations. Available to work overtime if needed
Accountabilities:
- Regrind round tool and gear tools to support production
- Maintain safety standard and safe working environment in the tool regrind area.
- Maintain quality standard and achieving target availability goals.
- Ensure all machines are set up to run efficiently.
- Work well in Team environment, and independently.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Must have 2 years experience and have already reached a level 3 or 4.
- Must have a satisfactory work record with no pattern of policy violations.
- Production and Processing Quality - knowledge of material (tool and gear), processes, quality control, and other standards and techniques for maximum quality and availability.
- Mechanical - general knowledge of machines and tools.
- Minimum of 2 years of working in manufacturing environment, and good learning potential.
- Math skills - basic knowledge of mathematics, and ability to understand Work Instructions.
- Coordination - adjusting action in relation to other's action and handling multiple tasks at the same time.
- Critical thinking - using logic and reasoning to identify the strength and weakness of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
