POSITION PURPOSE/MISSION:
Setup, adjust, and operate a variety of tool room equipment to manufacture, repair, or modify tooling. Troubleshoot tooling with production operators and perform preventative maintenance.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Constant standing.
- Frequent reaching, use of fine motor skills, and lifting up to 10 lbs.
- Occasional walking, balancing, and lifting up to 35 lbs.
- Minimal sitting, foot use, below waist level work, climbing, push/pulling, carrying, forceful motion, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation, as provided in detail in the Job Analysis Database.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Accredited Tool Maker Apprenticeship or four plus years’ diversified machine and tool making experience.
- Operating and programming CNC equipment experience.
- Ability to read blueprints, drawings, and sketches.
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments.
- Basic oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well with other employees.
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Basic problem-solving skills.
- Good math skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Accredited Tool Maker Apprenticeship or equivalent training or three plus years’ diversified machine and tool making experience.
- Ability to program CNC machines independently.
- Ability to document machine/tool details from tool components.
- Metal stamping and/or cold forming tooling experience.
- Experience with metal inert gas (MIG) and tungsten insert gas (TIG) welding.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Daily Operations
- Identify Tooling problems and escalate for attention.
- Use precision measuring instruments, gauges, or devices to verify tooling, components, machine and production parts.
- Safely perform various PM work to tooling as required.
- Safely perform fabrication work.
- Safely set up and operate machine tools, such as lathes, mills, grinders, and CNC equipment to machine parts to specifications.
- Program CNC equipment to control path machining of tooling and machine parts. Select cutting tools, machine speeds, and feed rates and make adjustments for tool wear, material and machine wear.
- Act as a resource for Production to ensure the machines are operating safely and efficiently.
- Perform machining operations which may require unusual and complicated set-ups and adaptation of tooling to perform work.
Troubleshooting
- Assist to resolve tooling problems as assigned.
- Improvise temporary tooling.
Project Work
- Plan, layout, and perform machining and bench operations to construct, alter, modify, or repair tools, fixtures, attachments, etc. to close and exacting tolerance and finish requirements.
- Organize and determine work procedures, sequences, and methods.
- Work from drawings, blueprints, sketches or own concept as to design.
