Position: Tooling Engineer
Direct Recruit Agency is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Tooling Engineer to join our team on a manufacturing, permanent basis. As a Tooling Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining tools and equipment used in the manufacturing process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide input and direction in the sourcing, design, construction, PPAP, and Launch of new tools, fixtures, and equipment for future programs and current changes.
· Assist Tool Room personnel and/or vendors in solving problems arising from production processes, tool tryouts, and the launch of new programs.
· Estimate, schedule, and execute all engineering changes of tooling, cost savings, etc. Coordinate these changes with Program Management, Manufacturing, Quality, and Phase-In Finance departments to ensure timely try-out and phase-in periods to meet production schedule requirements or customer delivery dates.
· Provide technical support for product development and design.
· Use technology on new and current processes and tools to meet or exceed customer specifications.
· Perform other duties as determined by the Engineering Manager and/or General Manger
· Stay informed of Manager's latest technologies the respect to tooling. Report on and implement those ideas.
· Establish new and superior sourcing methods for new tooling, which will ensure capability and improve, the cost-effectiveness of tools for the program (prototype and/or production). Assist Program Managers in preparing internal quotes for new/existing programs and all engineering changes by issuing, coordinating, the and proposing tooling and gauging
suppliers.
· Work with production to implement Poka Yoke methods.
· Work with Quality Engineers and others to establish characteristics and achievable tolerances for SPC.
· Will work in compliance with all legislative requirements of OHSA and will be accountable for specific Health and Safety responsibilities
· Once aware of a product or process non-conformance, stop further processing and inform the area supervisor or manager responsible.
· Maintains due diligence regarding environmental matters, minimizes any potentially harmful accidents, and works in compliance with ISO 14001. full-time
- Design and develop new tools and equipment for use in the manufacturing process
- Improve and optimize existing tools and equipment to increase efficiency and productivity
- Collaborate with production teams to understand their tooling needs and provide solutions
- Conduct research and stay up-to-date with industry advancements to incorporate new technologies into tooling designs
- Create and maintain technical documentation for all tooling designs and modifications
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues with tooling, ensuring minimal downtime and production delays
- Work with external suppliers to source and procure necessary materials and components for tooling projects
- Adhere to all safety standards and regulations in the design and use of tools and equipment.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Prefer experience as a tool and die maker, apprenticeship certification, or · Two+ years experience as a tool room engineer (or role with equal job scope and duties if different title).
· Prefer Bachelors Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience but not required
Ability to interact with all levels of employees in the organization, customers, suppliers, sub-contractors, engineers, etc. Welding environment ideally.
· Negotiation skills.
· Computer skills in the area of spreadsheets, word processing, CAD, CMM, design, and databases.
· Good interpersonal skills
***Must have welding environment/metals environment experience
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in tooling design and development
- Proficient in CAD software and other design tools
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and materials
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
