Tooling/Process Engineer - Meta

Summary:

At Reality Labs Research (RL-R), our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are looking for a skilled and motivated Tooling/Process Engineer to join our research team whose mission is to lead the design, development, and production of new molding tools and parts for low/moderate volume prototypes. We are specifically looking for a candidate with experience in material selection, process optimization, and tool design for overmolding of electronics. This candidate will be able to work with a team of researchers and engineers who are pushing state-of-the-art wearable devices in part design and material development.

Required Skills:

Tooling/Process Engineer Responsibilities:

1. Provide design for molding feedback and materials recommendations to mechanical engineers to improve the manufacturing feasibility of thermoplastic, thermoset, and metal parts

2. Cultivate and manage tooling and molding suppliers in the design, manufacturing and qualification of tooling and molded parts

3. travel as needed to ensure successful tool launch

4. Collaborate with a cross-functional team in the selection of materials to meet performance, schedule, dimensional and cosmetic requirements

5. Lead the design, development, and production of new silicone/plastic injection mold tooling (including optimization trials and DOEs) to meet strict part and assembled device requirements

6. Liaison with other tooling/process engineers to share expertise and take advantage of industry advancements

Minimum Qualifications:

7. Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in Mechanical Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Material Science, Manufacturing Engineering or a relevant technical field

8. 5+ years experience with a wide range of molding techniques including multiple of the following: insert molding, 2 shot molding, die casting, transfer molding, liquid silicone molding, and thermoforming

9. Experience managing working relationships with international and domestic suppliers to design and build tooling for high volume, tight tolerance consumer electronics products or similar

10. Experience guiding teams and suppliers through understanding and use of Molding simulations (Moldflow, etc.), SPC, DOE, and GD&T

11. Experience advising designs with a variety of elastomeric thermoplastic (TPU, TPE) and thermoset (silicone, NBR) resins

12. Multishot molding and insert/overmolding of electronic components

13. Experience identifying disruptive technologies in all phases of tool design, tool manufacturing and part creation, and implementing them into production environments

14. Experience with post molding operations including but not limited to: deflashing, coating, painting, pad printing, laser engraving, adhesive application

15. Knowledge in metal part fabrication methods (die-casting, stamping, forging)

16. Experience with tooling quoting, price negotiations, and cost breakdowns

Public Compensation:

$139,000/year to $200,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
