TYLin is currently seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our Rail and Transit team. Reporting to the Sector Manager, this position will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and modifying drawings, specifications, calculations, charts and graphs; and monitor work related to transit facilities and the traction power systems. The Electrical Engineer will work collaboratively with a team of Engineers and Specialists across rail disciplines (Engineering, Electrification Systems, Data Communications, and Project Controls), Project Managers, Engineers, Analysts, and Coordinators. The candidate will have the opportunity to work on ongoing notable projects with major railway systems and will show demonstrated technical competence in traction power and electrical engineering system design in rail + transit sector. The candidate must have proven experience with projects including design and construction of commuter rail roads, light rail, and subway systems in the US. The candidate will have the opportunity to work on multiple rail transit construction and design projects in Chicago area and provide design and construction support services on various rail transit projects across the US.
Responsibilities:- Managing and coordinating capital projects related to electrical systems;
- Interfacing directly with clients, and designers and engineers from other disciplines and consultants;
- Providing technical expertise for mid-large-size rail transit design and construction support services for traction power and electrical engineering projects.
- Providing technical support for procurement, construction, testing and commissioning;
- Preparing electrical design packages according to specific guidelines, conforming to client standards, and compliant with applicable design standards, building, and energy codes;
- Performing arc flash risk assessment where there is a potential arc exposure where there is a potential arc exposure;
- Delivering electrification engineering (design and consultancy) specifications;
- Performing quality reviews of engineering drawings, specifications, and calculations in accordance with company’s and/or project’s Quality Management System;
- Assisting the department manager to lead technical client relationships;
- Assisting in technical business development work and technical write ups;
- Developing electrical engineer scopes, work-hour estimates, design program, work scope, resource planning & schedule, reporting and forecasting;
- Assisting discipline department efforts to grow technical expertise;
- Mentoring, developing, and training of junior staff;
- Other duties as assigned/required.
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited University;
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in electrification detailed design, construction & project management and design consultancy;
- PE license in the state of Illinois, or on track to obtain one;
- Experience in railway traction power discipline;
- Experience with railway electrification (DC and AC), specifically design, construction, testing & commissioning, and maintenance of electrical substations, wayside 60 HZ power installations and signal power distribution.
- Experience with projects including design and construction of commuter rail roads, new light rail, and subway systems
- Experience in the development of technical specifications of electrical substation equipment.
- Proficient in use of design application software like SKM System Analysis for three-phase power system design and analysis including load flow and voltage drop calculations, short circuit calculations, impact motor starting, traditional fault analysis, demand and design load analysis, feeder, raceway and transformer sizing, panel, Motor Control Center (MCC) and switchboard schedule specifications.
