What you'll be challenged to do:
TranSystems’ Kansas City office, located in the heart of downtown, provides transportation engineering services on highway, bridge and rail projects throughout the country. We are growing, and have an immediate opening for a Traffic Engineer with 4 or more years of professional experience.
We are looking for a candidate to join our team who is excited to work on a variety of complex projects with colleagues who enjoy all aspects of design. The Highway & Traffic Team is currently involved in safety and design alternative analysis, corridor reconstruction projects, interchange and intersection improvements, bridge preservation projects and bridge replacement projects. Our success has been built on teamwork with our colleagues in highway, bridge, stormwater, and utility design. General Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepare and review design calculations.
- Research design alternatives, code requirements and present findings.
- Prepare and review reports, contract drawings, cost estimates and specifications.
- Communicate regularly with the Project Manager as to expected results, workload, and progress.
- Advocate for, lead, and mentor entry level engineers.
- Communicate and attend meetings with clients, subconsultants, and other project stakeholders.
- Engage in business development activities including information gathering, preliminary design and proposal writing.
- Develop accurate engineering designs and plans with quality presentation, while meeting project budgets, schedules, and company standards.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
Qualifications:
What you bring to our firm:
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
- At least 4 years highway and engineering experience
- Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.)
- Microstation & Geopak, Open Roads Designer, VISSIM, VISUM, AutoCAD.
- Traffic signal design and Synchro experience, knowledge of MUTCD, HSM & HCS
- Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.

What we’d prefer for you to bring to our firm:
- Certified as a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) preferred
- Experience working with KDOT and MoDOT other local transportation agencies
- Familiarity with highway design principles
- Experience using VISSIM
