Responsibilities:
What you'll be challenged to do:
Gannett Fleming TranSystems’ Boston office, located in the heart of downtown, provides transportation engineering services on highway, bridge and rail projects throughout New England and across the country. With the recent merger between our two firms, we are on the precipice of becoming one of the top transportation engineering firms in the nation. We are growing and have an immediate opening for a Traffic Engineer with 6 or more years of experience.
We are looking for a candidate to join our team who is excited to work with colleagues who enjoy all aspects of design. The Highway & Traffic Team is currently involved in a variety of noteworthy and complex projects, including safety and design alternative analysis, corridor reconstruction projects, interchange and intersection improvements, bridge preservation projects and bridge replacement projects. Our success has been built on teamwork with our colleagues and clients in highway, bridge, stormwater, and utility design. General Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepare and review reports, contract drawings, cost estimates, design calculations and specifications.
- Coordinate regularly with the Project Manager as to expected results, workload, and progress
- Shows understanding of team management, develops project scope of work, estimating manpower needs, prepare CPM schedules, and tracks project progress
- Advocate for, lead, and mentor entry level engineers
- Communicate with and actively participate in meetings with clients, subconsultants, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
- Engage in business development activities including information gathering, preliminary design and proposal writing.
- Create accurate and consistent engineering designs and plans with quality presentation, while meeting project budgets, schedules, and company/client standards.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Analyze operations and safety of roadway networks, highways, and intersections
- Develop and evaluate alternatives to improve safety for all roadway users
- Design detailed permanent and temporary traffic signals at complex intersections
- Collaborate with highway and bridge engineers to establish project needs, constraints, and proposed designs
- Facilitate making proposed designs a reality by designing temporary traffic control plans that maintain traffic, pedestrians and bicyclists throughout construction
- Represent Gannett Fleming TranSystems at professional events and conferences
Qualifications:
What you bring to our firm:
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
- PE license
- Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), AutoCAD (required); Microstation (a plus)
- Proficiency with MUTCD & HCM
- Knowledge of HSM
- HCS, Synchro, and SimTraffic experience
- Traffic signal design
What we’d prefer for you to bring to our firm:
- Experience working with MassDOT and other local transportation agencies
- Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Familiarity with highway design principles
- Construction Staging & Temporary Traffic Control Plans
- Experience using VISSIM, Sidra, and Work Zone analysis
