Traffic Engineering Intern - Johnson, Mirmiran, and Thompson Inc.

Position summary: The Traffic Engineering Intern will be asked to work closely with engineering employees to carry out an array of assigned tasks. The tasks will range from field work, data collection, revising existing engineering design drawings to design of small engineering projects. Rising Sophomores and Juniors are encouraged to apply.

Essential functions and responsibilities

• Enter data into systems
• Make edits and updates to existing engineering drawings and projects
• Coordinate new small-scale projects
• Assist with field data collection
• Assemble data and research
• Assist with administrative duties
• Provide input on solutions to problems using basic theories and engineering fundamentals
• Assist with layout and design of routine small and medium-sized engineering projects
• Develop and prepare specifications
• Evaluate equipment and material
• Maintain accurate and current project documentation

Nonessential functions and responsibilities

• Perform other related duties as assigned

• Full time student in civil engineering or a related field from ABET accredited engineering program with an interest in transportation projects

Preferred Experience

• Coursework in related field
• Previous internship experience

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
