JMT is seeking a highly motivated Traffic Section Head to lead and grow the traffic section in upstate NY, while collaborating with offices across the region. The successful candidate will be a technical leader in traffic engineering and be required to engage in business development activities including proposal writing as well as fostering existing and developing new market opportunities. Responsibilities also include managing and designing a variety of traffic related projects and services. Established client relationships are also expected.
The successful candidate will be well-versed across the traffic engineering discipline with demonstrated traffic studies, design, and project management experience in traffic planning, analysis, and design. The successful candidate will be expected to effectively oversee and mentor staff and perform, coordinate, and manage a variety of traffic related engineering projects or task assignments including but not limited to traffic signal plans, signing and pavement marking plans, crash analysis, planning studies, traffic analysis and studies and maintenance and protection of traffic plans. Work may also include roadway lighting and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) plans. Coordination with clients, contractors, outside consultants, government agencies and project stakeholders are also expected.

Annual compensation for this position is $114,400.00 - $156,000.00 commensurate with experience, education, and certifications.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Coordinate strategic growth plan with office managers and practice leaders
- Establish and grow market presence in upstate New York through marketing and business development
- Manage financial budget and allocate resources accordingly
- Lead and contribute to the production of proposals
- Serve as a technical expertise resource to project managers and technical staff
- Establish resource staffing needs
- Create and maintain project schedules
- Oversee and manage assigned staff working on project
- Perform performance reviews for staff
- Oversee the preparation of engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates
- Develop and maintain project specific quality plans
- Participate in client presentations
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and standards
- Coordinate with other departments, clients, and stakeholders to ensure project success
Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities
- Perform other related duties as assigned or required
- Candidates must be capable of working on multiple projects in a dynamic team-oriented environment
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Applicant must have a general understanding of design and plan preparation, and various applicable traffic engineering software packages. Must be proficient in MS Office
- Skill in building and maintaining relationships (internal and external) and collaborating with others
- Ability to lead, motivate, and manage a team of engineers while fostering a collaborative and productive work environment
- Job requires minimum 10 years of experience in traffic engineering design, planning and analysis
- BSCE from ABET accredited engineering program
- New York Registered Professional Engineer
- Certified Professional Traffic Operations Engineer preferred
- Experience working with NYSDOT
- Familiarity with the policies, publications, and practices of NYSDOT and local municipalities
- Experience working with the New York State DOT and other nearby agencies and municipalities
Working Conditions
Work is performed within a general office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment. Each employee has access to necessary equipment including laptop computers, and access to phones, printers, and other office equipment and supplies. Employees offered optional flexible work schedules including a combination of office and remote work.
