SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Training and Development Specialist is responsible for overseeing the corporate-wide LMS, developing, implementing, and managing both the technical and leadership training and development activities across Northstar. Works with operations to establish measures, set goals and monitor progress towards developing, and implementing training programs designed to produce a competent and safe workforce that is knowledgeable and qualified. This position is in Northstar’s Human Resource Department, and reports to the Vice President of Human Resources and SHEA.
The position works with all levels of employees throughout the organization as necessary but does not directly supervise any other employee. This is a full-time position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential duties and responsibilities of this position are listed below.
- Develops an annual training plan for NSA, including specific training goals (gaps) for each area.
- Recommends, develops, schedules and conducts required and recommended training sessions. Monitors and evaluates progress against the plan as well as training effectiveness in all areas of the plant.
- Maintain employee training records in support of general business requirements under NADCAP, ISO, AS9100, ITAR and customer audits.
- Accountable for leading the implementation of plant wide process and technical training programs and initiatives (new hire, enhancements, etc.).
- Provides support to the plant staff and operations management in maintaining a consistent method of evaluating job performance and training program effectiveness, developing qualification tools, and in maintaining proper training documentation.
- Prepares an annual training budget.
- Create and write job aids.
- Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will not direct the work of any other employees.

- Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles
- Occasional exposure to moderate noise
- The ability to wear proper personal protective equipment, including earplugs, safety glasses, safety shoes, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Education Required:
- Associate degree in a related field required.
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related business preferred.
Experience Required:
- Five (5) years of training experience in a manufacturing environment, unionized preferred
- AI experience preferred
- Thorough understanding of training processes and LMS implementation
