OxyChem is hiring at the landmark STRATOS Direct Air Capture facility in the Permian Basin, seeking those who can apply their technical, managerial, process and safety experience to an important new frontier industry. Direct Air Capture uses proven industrial processes to remove carbon dioxide (CO2) directly from ambient air. This CO2 can then be stored safely and securely underground or used to make things we all need in everyday life. STRATOS is on track to become the world’s largest Direct Air Capture facility. Currently under construction, it is designed to capture up to 500,00 tons of atmospheric CO2 annually and is expected to be commercially operational in mid-2025. Oxy subsidiary 1PointFive will own the facility, with OxyChem responsible for its operation and maintenance.

Description Process and Maintenance SMCs
As the Training Subject Matter Coordinator at our Direct Air Capture facility in Ector County, TX you will:
- Maintain protection of the environment and the health and safety of our employees, customers, and the communities in which we operate and/or transport our products, as our highest priority
- Assure compliance to PSM standards (MOC’s, PSSR’s, Procedures, Audits, etc.)
- Maintain and update PSM related documentation for the assigned process area
- Develop and maintain unit training materials for assigned process areas and maintenance crafts
- Incorporate input from production and maintenance technicians, unit and site supervisors, engineers and managers, etc. in the development of training materials, equipment preparation procedures and programs
- Coordinate training and conduct testing of new employees in assigned areas according to Facility Process Overview, Job Process Specific Overviews, Job Task Specific as required to include HESS overview, Process Overview, Process Systems, and other special training programs
- Ensure training of unit technicians is being completed in accordance with unit training process documentation
- Ensure qualification status’ are being maintained and cross-training in compliance with unit procedures
- Coordinate Operator Requalification Refresher/Supplemental training
- Coordinate and document annual recertification of Operating and Maintenance Procedures to ensure they are accurate and valid
- Work with Engineering to revise procedures and develop training materials through the Management of Change (MOC) process
- Review MOCs and complete updates of the training materials as appropriate
- Review major incidents in area and update training materials where appropriate
- Assist in the start-up of new equipment
- Assist in various audits such as: ISO, Safety, PSM, and Environmental
- Provide assistance to plant in various roles as required (turnaround support, process upsets, special projects, etc.)
- Participate in Process Hazard Reviews
- Maintain active qualifications in the unit, and work a rotating shift or maintenance outages as needed
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 5-10 years plant operating experience (preferred).
- High level of safety & environmental awareness and commitment.
- Proficient in Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to read, write and speak in English.
- Ability to work weekends, holidays and respond to callouts on a non-routine basis.
- Must be able to lift 40 lbs, climb ladders and stairs
- Walking, bending, stooping is required
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator and be able to respond to visual and audible alarms
