About the Job
Bergmann, an affiliate of Colliers Engineering & Design, is seeking Design Engineers to join our Transportation team in Rochester, NY! Graduate engineers and entry level candidates are encouraged to apply!
You’ll apply engineering fundamentals in technical support of project design teams. You will gain a wide range of experience in traffic, roadways, pedestrian and bicycle facilities, bridges, and culverts. You’ll work in an office, have an opportunity to do field work, and observe projects in construction. This position may also include opportunities for client-facing interactions to complement team and independent work.
- Evaluate, select, and apply engineering techniques and principles, with the guidance of senior staff, to develop designs, reports, presentation materials, and other elements necessary for project success
- Perform engineering calculations, write technical reports, and present findings to project engineers and managers
- Research design options and apply code provisions
- Work with senior engineers and planners to create designs that meet or exceed client needs
- Interpret drawings, often involving multiple disciplines, for specific projects
- Submit concept designs and work through approval processes such as obtaining agency permits
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with co-workers, supervisors, clients, and colleagues
- Meet schedule, budget, and quality goals set by project managers
- Create cost estimates
- Work toward fluency in MicroStation and create plans, profiles, 3D CADD models, etc.
- Perform QA/QC by verifying design methodology, calculations, and outcomes, etc.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- 3 to 5 years’ experience in transportation design
- Some experience working with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD and other software packages is a plus
- Willingness to learn new software technologies
- Prior experience with NYSDOT or local projects is a plus
- Ability to work independently and also be a team player
- Possess a strong work ethic, good communication skills, an attention to detail and exhibit an eagerness to learn
