About the Job
McCormick Taylor is actively seeking a dynamic Highway Engineer to join our growing North Carolina team. This position will report to our office in Raleigh, NC, though has the possibility to “work from home” from anywhere in the State of North Carolina, understanding the need to travel to Raleigh office periodically. The primary duties are to serve in a technical role under the direction of a Project Manager on the engineering development of various transportation projects. Projects may include roadway improvements, intersection design, ADA design, bicycle facility design, site improvements, transit facilities, drainage projects, as well as field visits and inspections. Job duties include roadway/surface design utilizing NCDOT, AASHTO and other applicable design specifications as well as state and local design requirements. Job duties also include assisting project managers on design review and permitting, evaluating opportunities, and assisting in business development efforts. This position will include assisting offices throughout the company allowing the candidate to gain exposure to clients outside of North Carolina.
• Develop effective/innovative designs for public sector projects.
• Familiarity with NCDOT, AASHTO, AREMA, and other design criteria/specifications.
• Provide internal quality control to ensure technical accuracy, conformance to project requirements, and overall constructability.
• Work with Project Management to ensure projects are completed on schedule and under budget. Must be able to independently manage project tasks.
• Proactively communicate with clients, environmental agencies, and federal entities.
• Provide construction assistance and respond to Requests for Information (RFI’s) as necessary.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and EIT required
• Minimum 4 years of experience in surface/roadway design
• Experience working with NCDOT required
• Strong computer skills including MS Office suite, Microstation Inroads/Geopak, OpenRoads
• Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred
• Experience with hydraulic and hydrologic design preferred
• Knowledgeable in job cost, scheduling, safety, and construction concepts
