Weakley County Schools is seeking qualified applicants for a mechanic in the transportation department. Our mechanics work on school buses (diesel, gasoline, propane), maintenance trucks, school vans, and driver's ed cars. This is a year-round job with benefits. The transportation department works as a team, and the ideal candidate would be one who works well as a member of a team.

Purpose of Job | To ensure the safe and efficient transport of students by keeping buses operational and avoiding preventable issues in bus transportation. | ||
Qualifications | · High School Diploma or GED · Must be 25 years of age · Must have a CDL with bus driver endorsement. Note: We will train you in the first 90 days of work if you don’t have this already. This will prepare you to take and pass the required licensure tests. · Three or more years of experience as a diesel or other mechanic preferred; knowledge of diesel and gas-powered engines required · Excellent interpersonal and public relations skills · Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing | ||
Essential Functions or Duties | · Perform preventive maintenance on school buses and other vehicles according to a pre-determined schedule · Perform repairs on school buses and other vehicles on an as needed basis · Assist in preparation of school bus fleet for the annual State Highway Patrol inspection · Install special adaptive equipment in buses on an as needed basis · Deliver spare buses to breakdown location; attempt to bring disabled bus back to shop. · Use a wrecker to tow a vehicle if needed · Keep records of all maintenance and repairs for each unit. · Drive a bus route on an as needed basis. · Keep a clean work area and make sure that all tools are accounted for. · Perform all duties with integrity, professionalism, and in compliance with all school, district, state, and federal laws/policies. · Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities. | ||
Physical Demands | Must be able to sit, stand, bend and reach while working on vehicles, drive all types of vehicles, and to climb into, on or under vehicles to perform maintenance and repairs, lift parts and components as needed, move throughout transportation facility, function in a multi-tasking, deadline oriented environment.
