About the Job
Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, transports patients, clinical materials, and equipment throughout the Hospital and Professional Office Building.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
*All duties listed below are essential unless noted otherwise*
1. Transports, assists in lifting, turning and transferring patients from beds to applicable transportation equipment using appropriate lifting techniques with regard to the patient's condition and the equipment. All patients must be transported with Registered Nurse approval.
2. Cleans and assures the proper working order of transportation equipment after each use. Reports defects immediately and follows through to ensure the equipment is repaired and checked.
3. Monitors the patient's general conditions during transport and assuring their safety as appropriate. Maintains operation of any external support to patients, such as but not limited to oxygen delivery devices. IVs, etc. immediately reports any malfunction to a RN.
4. Monitors and maintains portable oxygen tanks supplies throughout the hospital. Obtains and delivers clinical equipment such as but not limited to IV Pumps and oxygen tanks to departments as needed and directed. Transports non-narcotic medications as needed and directed.
5. Provides timely service. Transports other materials and equipment as needed. Communicates all delays in transport.
6. Collects items for reprocessing from departments and transports them to appropriate reprocessing locations.
7. Is accountable for communication or patient's condition at time of hand-off to another caregiver.
8. Assures the identification of the patient by using at least two identifiers.
Education: High School Graduate or equivalent
Skills: Successful completion of training in equipment usage, clinical aspect, customer service, patient mobility, and infection control. Satisfactory performance of appropriate competencies.
Certification: Obtain and maintain Health Care Provider (HCP) certification
WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Demands: The physical ability to move freely about; to stand and/or walk for extended periods; to lift, position, and transport patients of all ages in a safe manner. The ability to lift a minimum of 75 pounds and transfer and transport patients continuously throughout the day.
As an essential job function, due to continuously changing patient census/activity and staffing needs, must have the flexibility to work a varying schedule should the need arise, which may require working overtime (greater than 40 worked hours per week) and/or shift durations that exceed the assigned status for shift length and/or hours per week.
