About the Job
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Pediatric Cath Lab Technician to join our pediatric cardiology team. As a Pediatric Cath Lab Tech, you will assist in the preparation, operation, and maintenance of equipment used in pediatric cardiac catheterization procedures. These procedures are critical for diagnosing and treating heart conditions in children. You will work closely with pediatric cardiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the safe, efficient, and effective delivery of care to our young patients.
Key Responsibilities:-
Assist with Pediatric Cardiac Catheterization Procedures:
- Support pediatric cardiologists during diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterizations, including procedures such as angiography, balloon angioplasty, and device placement.
- Assist in patient preparation, positioning, and monitoring during catheterization procedures.
- Operate specialized imaging and monitoring equipment, including fluoroscopy and other diagnostic tools, to obtain accurate results during procedures.

Patient Care and Safety:
- Explain the procedure to parents and children, ensuring comfort and understanding of the process.
- Monitor the patient’s vital signs, including heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels, throughout the procedure.
- Assist in the administration of medications or sedatives as directed by the cardiologist, ensuring the safety of pediatric patients during the procedure.
- Maintain patient privacy and comfort, using age-appropriate techniques to alleviate anxiety in children and their families.

Technical Skills and Equipment Management:
- Set up and prepare equipment for cardiac catheterization procedures, including catheters, wires, and other necessary instruments.
- Operate fluoroscopy and other imaging devices during the procedure to guide the cardiologist and obtain high-quality images.
- Troubleshoot and ensure that all equipment functions correctly, performing necessary checks and maintenance as required.
- Ensure sterile technique and infection control procedures are followed at all times.

Documentation and Record Keeping:
- Document patient information, procedural details, and imaging results accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintain clear and accurate records of each catheterization procedure, including medications administered, equipment used, and patient status.
- Update patient charts and records in the electronic medical record (EMR) system to ensure comprehensive and up-to-date information.

Collaboration with Healthcare Team:
- Work closely with pediatric cardiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure smooth coordination of care before, during, and after the procedure.
- Assist in post-procedural care, monitoring the patient’s recovery from sedation and ensuring that they are stable before discharge or transfer to another department.
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians, explaining procedures and any post-procedural care or follow-up instructions.

Maintenance of Sterile Field:
- Adhere to strict sterile technique and infection control protocols to ensure patient safety during catheterization procedures.
- Maintain the cleanliness and sterility of all instruments, tools, and equipment used during the procedure.

Quality Assurance and Safety:
- Participate in quality control procedures to ensure that all equipment is functioning properly and that the procedure area is safe and clean.
- Follow radiation safety guidelines to minimize exposure to patients, families, and staff during fluoroscopy or other imaging procedures.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in pediatric catheterization techniques and equipment.

- Participate in continuing education opportunities to maintain certification and stay current on the latest technologies and best practices in pediatric cardiac catheterization.
- Attend departmental meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care and procedural efficiency.
