Job Summary
As a Pediatric Cardiac Sonographer, you will play a vital role in performing echocardiograms on infants and children to assess heart function and diagnose cardiac conditions. You will work closely with cardiologists and other healthcare professionals, providing essential diagnostic information that guides treatment decisions and improves patient outcomes.
Responsibilities:
- Perform Echocardiograms:
- Conduct transthoracic echocardiograms (TTEs) on pediatric patients, using ultrasound technology to obtain images of the heart's structure and function.
- Utilize specialized techniques, such as fetal echocardiography, to assess heart development in unborn babies.
- Ensure patient safety and comfort throughout the procedure, providing age-appropriate explanations and support.
- Image Acquisition and Analysis:
- Operate ultrasound equipment effectively to capture clear and accurate images of the heart.
- Analyze echocardiogram images to identify abnormalities and measure cardiac function.
- Prepare comprehensive reports for cardiologists, highlighting key findings and measurements.
- Patient Care and Education:
- Explain procedures to patients and their families, addressing any questions or concerns.
- Provide pre- and post-procedure instructions to ensure patient safety and comfort.
- Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
- Equipment Maintenance:
- Perform routine maintenance and quality control checks on ultrasound equipment.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and report any malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
- Collaboration:
- Collaborate effectively with cardiologists, pediatricians, and other healthcare professionals.
- Communicate findings clearly and concisely to referring physicians.
- Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to process improvements.
Qualifications:
- Education and Certification:
- Graduate of an accredited echocardiography training program or equivalent experience in pediatric or adult echocardiography.
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) certification in Pediatrics.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year of pediatric echo experience OR 6 months + of 100% pediatric patient population.
- Skills and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of pediatric echocardiography principles and techniques.
- Proficient in operating ultrasound equipment and analyzing echocardiogram images.
- Excellent patient care and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with children and families.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Detail-oriented and committed to accuracy.
Shift Details:
- Day shift: 5x8-hour shifts (8:00 AM - 4:30 PM), Monday-Friday.
- Available Start Dates: 11/18, 12/2, 12/16
- Daily Caseload: 4-5 patients per session
