ID: 51395698 Shift: Varies, Full Time Description: General Medical Laboratory Technician, under the general supervision of a Supervisor, Medical Laboratory Scientist, Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist or Charge Tech, is responsible for the proper performance of all laboratory procedures and reporting of test results. The Medical Laboratory Technician s responsibilities may include receiving specimens, verifying proper patient identification, and verifying specimen acceptability. The Medical Laboratory Technician performs all laboratory procedures in a prompt, accurate, and reliable manner according to established hospital and departmental policies and procedures.Responsibilities:1. Demonstrates technical knowledge, competence, and skill in performing applicable laboratory procedures and reporting of test results in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures and all applicable regulatory standards. Demonstrates ability to appropriately prioritize work for optimal patient care and to meet established turnaround time goals. Handles varying workloads while maintaining accuracy.2. Follows through on all tests, procedures, or tasks left from the previous shift, and reports any incomplete assignments to assure continuity of procedures. Communicates all necessary information to assure work is completed without interruption of service. Calls all critical/significant values as soon as available and documents action per protocol. Demonstrates ability to effectively communicate with lab coworkers, physicians, other caregivers, patients, and vendors.3. Consults with lead tech, supervisor, or pathologist prior to releasing test results whenever test findings are inconsistent with the clinical picture, or whenever difficulties with the procedure are encountered and are unresolved. Identifies, investigates, and communicates appropriately all unusual/unexpected results or situations.4. Performs and evaluates all required quality control and maintenance procedures per protocol with complete and accurate documentation. Implements corrective action as appropriate. Demonstrates effective problem-solving and instrument troubleshooting skills. Recognizes deviation from expected results. Identifies, investigates, and communicates unusual or unexpected results or situations.5. Embraces a culture of safety by ensuring all Infection Control / Safety protocols are always followed. Maintains cleanliness of own work area and equipment. Helps maintain organization and cleanliness of work/storage areas.6. Demonstrate fiscal responsibility by utilizing all supplies appropriately to avoid wastage. Replaces all supplies used during the shift to assure volumes are sufficient for the following shift, and properly disposes of waste. Rotates stock to ensure oldest supplies are used first.7. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilitiesRequired Education, Credential(s) and : Associate DegreeMedical Lab Sciences; Associate in Science in medical laboratory technology or 52 week military training certificate OR Senior Bachelor of Science student in Medical Technology, with successful completion of on campus courses and currently participating in clinical laboratory rotations OR Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical or biological science OR other qualifications meeting the CLIA Requirements for High Complexity Testing PersonnelCredential(s): Experience: Preferred Education, Credential(s) and : Credential(s): Experience: Position Billing string = Medefis Guaranteed Hours: Contract
