Job Summary
As a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, you will play a vital role in conducting nuclear medicine procedures to diagnose and treat various medical conditions. You will operate specialized equipment, administer radiopharmaceuticals, and acquire and analyze images to provide critical diagnostic information to physicians.
Responsibilities:
- Perform Nuclear Medicine Procedures:
- Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals to patients.
- Operate gamma cameras and PET/CT scanners to acquire images.
- Analyze images to identify abnormalities and provide preliminary findings to radiologists or nuclear medicine physicians.
- Ensure patient safety and comfort throughout procedures, addressing any concerns or anxieties.
- Patient Care and Education:
- Explain procedures to patients, answering their questions and addressing their concerns.
- Provide pre- and post-procedure instructions to patients.
- Ensure patient privacy and confidentiality.
- Radiation Safety:
- Adhere to radiation safety protocols to minimize exposure to patients and staff.
- Properly handle, store, and dispose of radioactive materials.
- Equipment Operation and Maintenance:
- Operate and maintain a variety of nuclear medicine equipment, including gamma cameras, PET/CT scanners, and dose calibrators.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and report any malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate effectively with radiologists, nuclear medicine physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
- Communicate findings clearly and concisely to referring physicians.
- Maintain accurate records of patient procedures and findings.
Qualifications:
- Education and Certification:
- Completion of an accredited nuclear medicine technology program.
- ARRT(N) certification required.
- NMTCB CNMT certification required.
- BLS certification required.
- Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of Nuclear Medicine Technologist experience.
- Experience with Siemens equipment and PET scans required.
- Experience with limited and whole-body PET scans required.
- Proficiency in starting and maintaining peripheral IVs required.
- Experience with storing, handling, and disposal of radioactive materials required.
- Skills and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of nuclear medicine principles and procedures.
- Proficient in operating nuclear medicine equipment and analyzing images.
- Excellent patient care and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Ability to follow radiation safety protocols and maintain a safe work environment.
- Must be able to start IVs (hard stop).
Shift Details:
- 5x8 Day Variable shifts. Start times vary based on unit needs (between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM), Monday-Friday.
- No weekend or on-call requirements.
Special Requirements:
- This position is specifically for the PET department.
- May transfer to a new PET facility on campus with a new Quadra camera (one of only four in the country).
- Preferred skills: Drawing venous blood, previous charge experience, teaching hospital experience, EPIC charting.
