Job DetailsThe Infection Control RN is a key member of the Infection Control Team in preventing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) by limiting the spread of transmission and unprotected exposure to pathogens in order to ensure a safe environment for patients, employees, and visitors.
Job RequirementsSystematically collect, analyze, and interpret health data to disseminate appropriate health practicesConduct educational and training activities for healthcare workers under guidance from the Director of Infection ControlMaintain and conduct a monthly schedule of surveillance rounds and follow up on corrective activitiesApply policies and procedures that ensure compliance with TJC, OSHA, CDC, CMS, and other regulatory/accrediting agenciesCoordinate activities for staff for Infection Control Week, World Hand Hygiene Day, and other promotional eventsConduct and gather data on hand hygiene audits to generate a monthly hand hygiene audit reportLiaise with Employee Health regarding staff member health issues or exposuresEducate new hires on available Hepatitis B and influenza vaccinationInteract with and report communicable diseases to local and state health departmentsDevelop reports and statistical data, calculate infection rates using NHSN denominator dataAssist with ICRAs for construction/renovation projects; assists director with hospital-wide annual risk assessment, annual infection control plan, development of goals and objectivesIdentify, investigate, report healthcare-associated infections among patients and personnel through ongoing surveillanceEnsure adherence to patient isolation precautions daily
