It is not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of personnel so classified.EDUCATION BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE Must be a licensed physical therapist in the State of Washington Must have successfully completed a Master s or Doctorate degree in physical therapy approved by the Council of Medical Education and Hospitals of the American Physical Therapy Association Minimum two years of experience in a general hospital, clinic, or rehabilitation center preferredESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS1. Reviews and evaluates physician s referral (prescription) and patient s medical records to determine physical therapy treatment required.2. Performs patient tests, measurements, and evaluations (such as range-of-motion and manual muscle tests, gait and functional analyses and body-parts measurements) and records findings to aid in establishing or revising specifics of treatment process.3. Plans and prepares a written treatment program based on evaluation of available patient data.4. Administers manual therapeutic exercises to improve or maintain muscle function, applying precise amounts of manual force and guiding patient s body parts through selective patterns and degrees of movement.5. Instructs, motivates, and assists patients in non-manual exercises such as active regimens, isometrics and progressive-resistives, and in functional activities such as ambulation, transfer and daily-living activities, using weights, pulleys, exercise machines, mats, steps and inclined surfaces, and assistive and supportive devices such as crutches, canes, parallel bars, orthoses and prostheses.6. Administers treatments involving application of physical agents such as light, heat, water and electricity, moist packs, low-voltage generators, and ultrasound machines. Evaluates effects of treatments at various intensities and durations, and adjusts treatments to achieve maximum benefit.7. Administers massage by applying deep superficial soft tissue techniques.8. Administers traction and manual therapy techniques to relieve neck and back pain, extremity pain, and dysfunction using intermittent and static traction equipment.9. Records patient treatment response and progress.10. Instructs patient and family in physical therapy procedures to be continued at home.11. Evaluates, fits, and adjusts prosthetic and orthotic devices and recommends modifications to Orthotist.12. Confers with physician and other health practitioners to obtain additional patient information, suggest revisions in treatment program, and integrate physical therapy treatment with other aspects of patient health care.13. Completes daily charges and schedules patients.14. May plan and conduct lectures and training programs on physical therapy and related topics for medical staff, students, and community groups.15. May train and evaluate clinical students.16. May plan and develop physical therapy research programs and participate in conducting research.17.
