Job Title: Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (Med-Surg RN)

Job Summary: The Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (Med-Surg RN) provides comprehensive nursing care to adult patients with a wide range of medical conditions. The role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care in collaboration with the healthcare team. The Med-Surg RN will be responsible for managing multiple patients with varying needs, ensuring high-quality care and patient safety.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Patient Assessment:

   • Conduct thorough assessments of patients’ physical, emotional, and psychological conditions.
   • Monitor vital signs and other indicators to detect any changes in patient conditions.
   • Document patient histories, symptoms, and responses to treatments.

2. Care Planning and Implementation:

   • Develop individualized care plans based on patient assessments and medical diagnoses.
   • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
   • Coordinate with healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive patient care.

3. Patient Education:

   • Educate patients and their families about health conditions, treatment options, and post-hospital care.
   • Provide instructions on medication administration, wound care, and lifestyle modifications.

4. Monitoring and Evaluation:

   • Monitor patients for any adverse reactions or complications related to treatments and medications.
   • Evaluate the effectiveness of care plans and make necessary adjustments in collaboration with the healthcare team.

5. Collaboration and Communication:

   • Work closely with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver coordinated care.
   • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members to ensure understanding and satisfaction.

6. Documentation:

   • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
   • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements in documentation practices.

7. Patient Safety and Infection Control:

   • Adhere to infection control protocols and hospital policies to ensure patient safety.
   • Report any safety concerns or incidents to the appropriate personnel.

8. Emergency Response:

   • Respond promptly to medical emergencies and provide appropriate interventions.
   • Participate in code blue and other emergency situations as required.

Qualifications:

• Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
• Licensure: Current RN license in the state of practice.
• Experience: Previous experience in a medical-surgical setting preferred, but not always required.
• Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required; ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) may be required based on the facility.
• Skills: Strong clinical skills, critical thinking, effective communication, and the ability to work well under pressure. Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) is often required.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift, move, and transfer patients as needed.
• Capability to stand, walk, and perform other physical activities for extended periods.

Work Environment:

• Typically works in a hospital or acute care setting.
• May be required to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
