Overview:
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Room (ER) is a vital clinical practitioner responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care tailored to the specific age and needs of the patient population. The RN ensures that quality care is provided safely and efficiently, adhering to the unit's standards. This role emphasizes effective communication and collaboration with staff, physicians, patients, and families, while embodying the organization's mission and values.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and implement patient care in alignment with age-specific needs.
- Ensure quality care delivery in a safe and efficient manner.
- Maintain clear and concise communication with all stakeholders.
- Demonstrate professionalism and respect in all interactions.
- Adhere to unit standards of care and organizational goals.
Education:
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
Certifications/Licenses:
- Current New Mexico RN license or Compact state license.
- BLS Certification required within 2 weeks of hire; additional required certifications must be obtained within 6 months.
- Nurses must maintain certifications without a grace period for renewal.
Skills:
- Current knowledge and skills relevant to the age/type of patient population served.
- Understanding and sensitivity to patients' rights during care delivery.
- Effective communication tailored to the developmental age of patients.
Experience:
- Relevant clinical experience preferred.
Supervision:
- Responsible to: Patient Care Director or Manager.
Environment:
- Exposure to bloodborne pathogens (Categories C and B), infectious diseases, and x-rays.
- Work in a clean, well-lit, and ventilated environment; smoke-free.
- Subject to stressful situations with flexible hours to accommodate unexpected changes.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to handle emergency/crisis situations.
- Prolonged standing and walking; heavy physical effort required for patient handling.
- Requires reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
- Visual and hearing acuity within normal or correctable limits.
- Manual dexterity and fine motor coordination are essential.
