**Job Description:**
- Under the supervision of an OR Team Leader or Charge Nurse, prepare and maintain medical equipment, instruments, and supplies for surgical procedures.
- Assist with surgical patient care under the direction of an RN or physician.
- Before each surgery, verify that supplies, equipment, and instruments are available and ready.
- Independently prepare the operating suite/sterile field for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Participate in the timeout process before every surgical case.
- Perform room turnover, which includes case breakdown, room cleaning, and setup.
- Adhere to principles of sterility, aseptic technique, infection control, universal precautions guidelines, and life safety guidelines.
- Anticipate the needs of the patient and surgeon and demonstrate critical thinking skills.
- Prepare medications for procedures and maintain a sterile technique during surgical cases.
- Inspect equipment and instruments for any defects or breakage and manage any defective equipment appropriately.
- Demonstrate competence in sterile processing processes and procedures.
- Communicate and ensure the accuracy of preference cards, working collaboratively with the OR team.
- Act professionally and respectfully with all members of the surgical team.
- Uphold the hospital's philosophy, mission, and values in all actions and communications.
- Follow the hospital's confidentiality policy and maintain a positive working environment.
- Use the appropriate chain of command to resolve problems effectively.
**Physical Requirements:**
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Perform activities such as stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, reaching, and grasping.
- Visual acuity needed to perform detailed tasks and operate machinery.
**Working Conditions/Environmental Exposures:**
- Exposure to environmental hazards such as chemicals, solvents, needles, sharps, blood, body fluids, and various infectious/communicable diseases.
- Appropriate protective clothing/equipment may be necessary.
