Description
We are seeking Interns to assist the Outside Plant (OSP) Department during the Summer of 2025. The intern will work closely with both the engineering staff and inspection field crews. The intern will benefit from hands-on experience, technical training, mentoring from professional staff, and working within a positive team environment.
Location: NM, AZ, TX, WV, VA, WY, MT
Anticipated Functions of the Position:
(OSP) Inspectors provide expert supervision of construction crews to ensure construction contractors are placing fiber optic cable according to the customer’s requests (buried, underground, aerial) and engineering work prints (staking sheets).

Key Responsibilities
The essential functions of an OSP Inspector Intern will include the following:
- Participation in team meetings.
- Working on-site with the crews daily (in varied weather conditions).
- Collect field construction measurements and update construction drawings with field changes known as ‘redlines’ that will be converted to as-builts.
- CAD updates of As-builts depending on the experience of the candidate.
- Assist with quality control inspections and tests.
- Performing simple calculations, computer data entry, and some CAD, GIS, design, and cross-training exposure.
- Support engineering staff in conducting technical analysis.
- Creation of technical documentation.
- Must be willing to travel.
- You must have your own vehicle (Mileage will be paid).
Qualifications
- Third- or fourth-year students are preferred.
- Students must be enrolled in an engineering class with the goal of obtaining a bachelor’s degree in engineering.
- Must hold a 2.5 GPA and a 3.0 in degree program classes.
- Ability to apply technical skills to meet project demands.
- Ability to interpret various written, oral, or scheduled instructions.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Must be able to solve problems independently with some direction.
- Ability to prioritize work and meet project deadlines.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with MS Office products with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, CAD.
