Vista Veterinary Specialists is seeking an experienced Triage Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant to join our team!
Our 24-hour emergency and specialty hospital offers care in internal medicine, critical care, radiology, and cardiology. Our modern facility provides a full in-house laboratory, digital radiography, ultrasonography, on-site CT, and endoscopy.About the Job:
- As a Triage Veterinary Technician/Assistant:
You'll play a crucial role in our ECC department by conducting rapid patient triages within 15 minutes of their arrival at the emergency department. Your expertise will be vital in prioritizing patients based on their stability and complaints, ensuring efficient and effective care. - Compensation typically falls between $20.00 and $27.00 hourly, based on skills, experience and licensure.
- Shift schedule: 4-10's, Sunday to Wednesday 10a-8:30pm
- Rapidly assess patients to determine prioritization of triaging
- Triaging incoming patients within 15 minutes and managing patients/clients throughout their visit.
- Perform basic triage on all incoming ER cases and determine appropriate acuities.
- Professionally and politely communicate with clients regarding pet updates, services, and practices.
- Input basic history and start history template in Ezyvet
- Aid technical floor staff with STATs
- Collaborating with DVMs in patient assessment, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures.
- Obtaining and processing laboratory samples such as blood, urine, free fluid, and fine needle aspirates.
- Utilizing different imaging modalities for patient assessment.
- Assist in providing treatments and nursing care throughout the shift.
- Calculating and administering medication, fluid additives, CRI's
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a veterinary hospital setting required, with 1 year of ECC experience preferred.
- RVT, VTS, or VACSP preferred but not required.
- Experience as a receptionist or Client Service Representative is a plus
- Proficiency in processing basic laboratory specimens and working knowledge of radiographic techniques required.
- Positive outlook and ability to work in a highly collaborative environment.
- Ability to recognize a patient in critical condition (i.e. a STAT patient)
- Excellent communication skills and client services; the ability to multitask on the phone and computer
- Effective communicator with clients in stressful/high emotion situations
- Efficient intake progression to keep the workflow of the emergency department flowing smoothly
- Open to direct communication with the doctor on staff and support team
- The ability to adapt to high volume caseload in regards to getting patients in for treatment and discharged post care
