JOB SUMMARY:
The Bronx District Attorney’s Office is seeking a well-qualified staff whose diverse backgrounds reflect an ability to serve the 1.4 million members of the Bronx County community and pursue a safer Bronx through fair justice. The Vehicular Crimes Unit (VCU) is responsible for preparing, assisting, and advising Assistant District Attorneys in the prosecution of all New York Vehicle and Traffic Law ( VTL) cases in Bronx County. Under the supervision of the Administrative Director and Deputy Administrative Director of the Trial Division, the VCU Trial Preparation Assistant Level III will lead and manage the professional staff of a Trial Bureau, while maintaining a reduced caseload of their own.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific duties will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Work closely with NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad (CIS) to assist with gathering information/discovery for prearrest investigations.
- Assist with vehicular related investigations that primarily deal with serious physical injuries or death.
- Request & redact all discovery documents accordingly.
- Request court minutes for all warrants executed.
- Run RAPS for potential witnesses and suspects.
- Assist with downloading and analyzing Cellebrite Reader.
- Request OCME Autopsy Reports.
- Request NYS DMV certified documents.
- Order certified 911 calls & iCad.
- Assist with providing ADA’s IDTU discovery packets and OCME Toxicology results relating to DWI arrests.
- Assist with scheduling conferences for ADAs to meet with Chief Kimelman
- Answer any and all questions related to vehicular crimes that TPAs and ADAs have.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor’s degree preferred or Associates degree and a minimum of three (3) years working experience in a law firm, governmental agency, civic or community organization.
- Three years trial preparation or paralegal experience.
- Excellent customer service skills, the ability to organize information in a concise manner and strong attention to details.
- Preferred minimum of two years’ experience working with BXDA case tracking application as well as working in a paperless environment.
- Ability to handle sensitive data.
- Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to communicate with all levels of staff effectively and professionally.
- Prefer knowledge of the criminal justice system and criminal justice databases
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
