Trusts and Estates Associate
About Us: Gpac has partnered with a local multispecialty law firm headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, and is looking to expand our sophisticated and growing Trusts and Estates practice by adding an experienced associate. We seek a passionate and skilled Trusts and Estates Associate to join our dynamic team.
Position Overview: The Trusts and Estates Associate will be deeply involved in estate planning, trust creation, and estate administration. This role offers the opportunity to work directly with clients and collaborate with a dynamic team of legal professionals. The ideal candidate will have 2-4 years of relevant experience in trusts and estates, and must be admitted to practice in Virginia.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare estate planning documents including powers of attorney, wills, advance medical directives, and revocable trust agreements.
- Create various types of irrevocable trusts such as Grantor Retained Trusts, ILITs, and Special Needs Trusts.
- Draft LLC Operating Agreements, corporate Shareholder Agreements, and Buy-Sell Agreements.
- Advise clients on income, estate, gift, and generation-skipping tax planning strategies.
- Assist with estate and trust administration, including postmortem tax planning and representation before courts and tax authorities.
- Prepare estate, gift, and fiduciary income tax returns.
Qualifications:
- Excellent research, writing, and critical thinking skills.
- Strong communication and collaborative abilities.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple matters efficiently.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law in Virginia.
- 2-4 years of prior experience in trusts and estates law.
